I got the ad for this in the mail Saturday. I've been kicking around whether or not to walk the walk since then. I want to, for obvious reasons, but it's in the Big City, and I always feel overwhelmed by these events downtown. I'll spare you details about my angsting, and simply state the obvious: I've decided to participate.
This is going to be a pain for my friends, since I'm also doing the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in June (something I've done for the last five years except for missing last year's). But so be it. I'm always there when somebody's kid is selling cookies or wrapping paper, and I give to everybody else's walk-a-thons and bowl-a-thons and basket bingos. It's pay-back time.
The Socialist said he'd do the walk with me, giving Team Salamander a grand total of two members. He's never done anything like this though, and was appalled when he found out that you were supposed to hit people up for donations to sponsor you. I told him the walk started at 11:00 (which it does), but only realized this morning that registration started at 8:30 a.m. I suspect that this will be sufficient for him to recant his offer to participate and elect to support Team Salamander by check instead. I'll be happy, regardless of what he decides to do. This is my cause, not his, after all.
And so I figure that Team Salamander is probably going to be reduced to one member by the end of the week. Anyone in the Philly area who'd be interested in walking ... you know where to find me. Although I strongly suspect that the only person I know of in the Philly area would be far more interested in running than they would be in walking, if they're interested at all (grin).
I'm planning to take plenty of pictures. The day of the walk should make for an interesting diary entry.
