The few pieces I have are only a token sampling of the Hummel collection my grandmother and mother amassed. There was a complete nativity set from the sixties that would have been worth a mint now. Another piece, called "Ring Around the Rosie" would have paid off Clueless's veterinary bills for the rest of his natural and unnatural days if we still had it (my father carried that one back on his lap in the plane from Germany after a business trip in the sixties). There were several other of the larger sized pieces as well, whose names I no longer recall. When my sisters were breaking up the estate, they gave away all these pieces to friends of my mother. I don't know if they knew what they were worth at the time. Not that it matters - they are now safe in the hands of friends, and tht should be enough. My sisters kept they pieces they liked as well, so I've only got my portion of the collection. I have no idea if they understand what these suckers are worth. I know I sure as hell didn't.
Of course, appraised value means nothing; what you get at sale says it all. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much yet. It's hard not to though.
