To my relief, she seems to be integrating in well with the three L's. My biggest concern was that my three idiots would pick up on the fact that she is fairly weak (her diabetes has left her with a more than moderate case of diabetic neuropathy). Rather than sensing her weakness, they seem to be giving her plenty of room. Right now LGS is hiding on the kitchen table from Adele, LBrS hisses every time she wanders too close (an action that Adele steadfastly ignores) and LBlS keeps trying to follow her around and sniff her butt.
Adele's diabetes is not yet well controlled, and she has quite an appetite because of it. There was no food in any of the bowls up stairs, but she thoroughly inspected them anyhow, just in case. Even though the power is off and the Drinkwell water fountain isn't working, Adele managed to surprise herself by sticking her head into the bowl before she realized there was water in it. A few sneezes later, and she went on investigating her new world as if nothing happened.
I have an appointment for a consultation with a veterinary clinic our rescue group does not ordinarily use to see if we can't do something to better control her sugar levels. I've been reading that there have been some pretty amazing cases of improving or even reversing diabetic neuropathy with the use of methyl-B12 injections, so I want to inquire about that as well.
I'm going to shut down my computer now to conserve it's battery, but with luck I'll have a few pictures to append to this entry by the time power returns and I can upload it.
[Power returned after a little over two hours. I'm uploading this about two hours after the fact. I don't feel like dealing with pictures now, so they wll wait for a future update.]
