Sad Little LGS
Iâm not finding new ringworm lesions on her everyday anymore, but I do find another one every three days or so. The Prof has a new (very small) spot on his back. As much as I hate to do this to her, we have to start contemplating the âQâ word. Iâm also going to have to start bathing her a couple of times a week with a special shampoo. I suspect this will be the only way we can get this under control.
The biggest problem is logistics. The basement room that we were using for the fosters would have been adequate, but the carpet is ruined and I really donât want to keep any cats down there until we rip it up and tile. The Prof suggested the spare bedroom, but keeping that clean of ringworm spores would be nigh impossible unless we dismantled the bed and took it out of the room. Even then, we have wall to wall in virtually all our rooms, which would make cleaning/biosecurity problematic.
The solution I hit on was the master bedroomâs bathroom. Before I describe it to you, please keep in mind that it was this way when we moved in; I'm not responsible for this bit of sybaritic indulgence. At a guess itâs about 15â by 10â at its widest and longest points, with a cathedral ceiling and white ceiling fan, done in various shades of pink tiles with pink painted walls and ceiling. The room is irregularly shaped, with a little nook next to the door for the shower stall and a little nook on the far side for the commode. A bank of three windows provide a view over the major road in front of our house, though exactly why one would desire such a view while seated on the commode is a bit beyond me. Just below the windows is a raised Jacuzzi, so you could also choose to have a view of the major road while soaking in your Jacuzzi.
The View From The John
Since the bathroom floor and the Jacuzzi area are ceramic tile, it will be easy to keep things disinfected. I have removed the bath rugs from the bathroom, as well as the window curtains to keep maintenance to a minimum. I had been meaning to put translucent sheeting up on the windows anyhow, and this was the excuse I needed to actually get rid of the drapes and install the window laminates (a much easier job than anticipated). The Jacuzzi will serve as a place to set up a plastic tub to bathe LGS while containing the mess to an area that is easily washed down afterwards. The windows will give LGS a place to bask in the healing UV light while watching squirrels and traffic (with the occasional squirrel in traffic). I still need to find a way to clear all my stuff off the counters, and I need to set up her litter box and decide which toys to give her, but the biohazard room is nearly ready for her. Tomorrow she goes to the vet for blood work; when I bring her home sheâll go straight into her new room. When I get two successive clear cultures on her she can have free run of the house again.
I anticipate much pitiful mewing for at least the next week.
