Whoa! Didn't mean to mislead!

No, Alaina, it wasn't that bad. I had a lumpectemy. The lesion was abnormal, but pre-cancerous. I just have to be really careful in the future, since these things can recur. The scar is big enough that I have to be a little careful about tank-tops and sleeveless shirts, but if that's the worst I ever have to complain about I'm in good shape. It should eventually fade from red to white - it took the scar on my leg about two years to get to that point.

I'd go on and on at this point about self-exams, regular check-ups and the power of the mammogram, but there are others who can say it better than I, so I'll leave it to them. The annual American Cancer Society Walk for Life is coming up in many areas around the country (ours is in the next two weeks). I encourage everyone who has one in their area to support those who are walking with a contribution. Even five dollars makes a difference. I'll be walking the "dead shift" in our local even, from one to three a.m. If anybody wants to sponsor me, you know where to find me.

    i remember attempting to throw away a lot of my high school musings. Erin (then girlfriend, now wife) caught me doing it and yelled at me. She made me give them to her. i think she still has them in a box somewhere. She really seemed to find some value in the crap i had written back then. Honestly though, i look back at poems i won awards for years ago and cringe when i read them. i can't believe that garbage like that won awards. Eek!

    Glad to hear the chapter is coming along. Yeah, we all change things on the way. My first real and serious attempt at a "short story" has undergone many facelifts. There is one version of it at Open Fiction, but it has since been greatly improved upon. That's the way i suppose.

    I'm glad I kept mine. :) I had the rare privilege (?) of teaching college composition for a bit, and I was appalled at what I got. Then I found a paper I had written on Beowulf in 10th grade, not so distant from their work. (shaking head) It was much easier to be merciful to them after that.

    Whoa! You had cancer? That must've been really scary. So you must've had your breast removed right? Yeah, so you had breast cancer. Hmmm... sorry it happened, but you must've gotten something out of it right? Learning from something is the best. You must've learned a lot in that time. Anyway, good luck! Love,Alaina

    S & I were just talking about past stuff we'd written last night. Like the Prof, S keeps everything he writes and everything that people write to him. I, on the other hand, took your route and destroyed most of my early attempts at writing, except the poetry. I kept the poems, bad as they were, and destroyed the serious novel-like stuff. I wish I'd kept them all. I was also thinking last night that I wish I'd kept all my old diaries from when I was a teen. I think they'd be a riot to read now! Unfortunately, as puberty struck so did my insecurities and I threw those away too. Since University I've kept everything I've written, however. I learned the value in it, whether it's great writing or not. It's a part of who we are & were.

    So, do we get any hints as to the subject of the chapter you've been wroking on?

    Also, sorry to learn about your cancer scare. Hope you check-up goes well.
