Weâve worried about this for the last year and a half because of the steroids sheâs been on to control her tiraditis. Interestingly enough, sheâs currently on the smallest dose of steroids sheâs been on since she was diagnosed with feline triad syndrome â just 2.5 mg budesonide every other day. Whether itâs her medications, or if she was just fated to suffer, SLFC now gets to chalk yet another ailment up on her board of woe.
Blood sugar today was 299, and urine glucose was >1000. Normal blood sugar for a cat should never be greater than 140, and is usually more like 100-120. There should never be any sugar in the urine.
We know that she wasnât diabetic when she was diagnosed with ringworm because we checked. We know she wasnât diabetic as recently as September, because we kept checking. I started seeing hints that something was different about three weeks ago, when she started losing weight and showed a decreased interest in food (Iâve been fork-feeding her at least half her meals). This may well explain the latest ringworm relapse, which shouldnât have happened now that we have her on the mega-drug of all fungal mega-drugs, Sporanox.
I ordered a glucose meter for her today. I purchased her insulin and a box of syringes today. I got a case of the DM diabetes food for her today. And then I came home and had a nice cathartic breakdown.
