I called and got my current MELD score, based on last Friday's bloodwork. I'm so frustrated I could scream. I actually LOST a point ... I'm down to a seventeen now. I don't understand this in the least. My INR is higher than ever before. When I plugged Friday's results into the on-line MELD calculator, it came up with an 18. And I was under the (apparently mistaken) belief that Dr. Liver had bargained a few extra points for me through UNOS. So how could my score be less than it ever was before?

As if a reduced MELD score wasn't bad enough, I see that a number of people have shifted positions on the liver waiting list as of February 21st. There are now four people with MELD's of greater than 25, and sixteen people in the classes above me instead of twelve. Looks like I'll be spinning my wheels forever at this rate.

I'm usually pretty good about keeping my spirits up, but I think I'm going to give in to a little pity party in my honor right now.

    You go right ahead. You deserve one. :/ If I were throwing it, it would involve a trip to your local videostore for some of your favorite escapist fiction. That sucks, Pali, and I am -so- sorry to hear it.

    I will join your pity party. In your honor, to raise your spirits, I will watch every Hugh Jackman movie I own (which is all of them). I will let you know how successful it was. If your spirits are not raised, I will commit myself to watching these movies continually until you feel better!

    Well, a higher MELD score would mean you were getting worse, right? So maybe it's not such a bad thing. I know you'd like to get this over with, though. Hang in there, kid.
