Good idea, but

No, Slipper, the lease specifically prohibits me subletting. The thought occurred to me that I could still try to do that on the sly, but with my luck whoever I got to sublet would cause problems and I'd get caught. Even if they didnt cause problems, Migraine Man and Yorkie Lady are really nosey - if they saw someone else going in and out of my apartment they'd probably contact management.

When I took this apartment, I thought I was being real smart. I took the apartment that was available in the same building as the management office. I figured that, since I was within spitting distance of the office I'd get better service. After all, you don't want the apartments immediately adjacent to the office looking ratty, or their occupants disgruntled. We're one of the first things prospective renters see, after all.

This of course means that management sees everything that goes around my apartment. Including illicit tennants, should I try to pull that off.

Well, they see most illicit tennants. They actually haven't caught on to the fact I've got ACfH yet. There's no way to turn her into a paying sublet tennant though, so I'm still up manure river with no way to propel my boat.

Ah, Kirsty Maccoll. I first encountered her working with the Pogues on 1990s Red Hot + Blue and developed a real appreciation for her.

Now you've given me another dead musician to feel nostalgic about. Two in one day. Go me. :/

The weekend trip sounds like no fun at this point. I wish I could think of a good solution, but my mind is blank ... all I can say, is I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya!

LOL on your "Don't shop angry" entry.
What exactly keeps turning colors and hopping up and down on the bottom of the page? It's interesting. And kinda cute too.

My experiences with subletting aren't good ones. (They usually turn into pigs and/or axe murderers.)
    I hate renting.

I don't understand why you can give two months' notice, but still have to pay penalties.

Oh well. I hope you end up having fun this weekend anyway, even if Prof sleeps until noon.

Your rental situation sounds similar to one I had in my college days! I was renting the 1st floor of a house along with 5 others. The landlord's office was in the basement and we thought this meant we would get prompt fixes to problems. Not at all! Course when a gas station got built right outside my bedroom window I decided it was time for me to move on. I left the apartment and basically told the roommates it was up to them to find a replacement. Dumb me! years later I found out that I had a $1500 debt on my credit report! Turns out that one of our housemates had not paid rent that entire time and then skipped out on the lease. YIKES. I learned a lot from that experience to say the least!! I wish you luck in your situation. :-)

I have yet to deal with an apartment complex manager who has more brains than a baywatch lifeguard, or is more trustworthy than a used car salesman with a gold front tooth. Sorry to hear about the apartment situation, I've been through similar situations in the past couple years and have been repeatedly bitten in the ass. The only thing that makes me feel redeemed is I've never paid a pet deposit!

    good luck!
