First thing after arriving at the college this morning I fired up my computer and applied. The irony is, of course, that I take my CPhT test two weeks from today; if I actually got this job the course would have been wasted. Turns out that won't be a concern.
The feds are only hiring people for the position who have already worked for the government for at least a year. I'm fairly bummed, since my experience actually far exceeds the average federal neophyte's. Still, apparently its not to be. At least I'll be on record for having attempted to apply.
This picture's a bit dark, but I really like it anyhow.
I'm still fostering Teddy, the Persian. Although he's been returned to our cat rescue twice for not using his litter box, he's been absolutely perfect for me. The amitriptyline might have something to do with that, of course, but I'm in the process of weaning him off of it, and he's continued to do well even on the lower dose. Originally our organization was considering euthanasia (we can't in good faith place a cat that is likely to end up damaging his adoptive family's furniture) but based on my experience our group has agreed to try and place him again, although we're going to have to be very careful about who tackles him. Teddy is not a "beginner's cat". Fuzz Butt (as The Prof as taken to calling him) will be posted on PetFinder in the near future.
One restriction for future adopters is that Fuzz Butt is definitely going to have to be an "only" cat; the idiot tried to take on the Little Brown Shit, even though LBrS outweighs him and has claws (Teddy was declawed by his original owner). Fortunately, while Teddy escaped from the foster room in a mad charge to get at LBrS, he tripped while running up the stairs and I was able to grab him before he got himself into real trouble.
If anyone has any leads for a potential home (we will consider Persian Rescue groups as well as a straight adoption), you know where to find me.
