More pluses than minuses. Enjoyed very much.

Kiddie relevant facts: No sex; no gore (lots of fighting and blood but no guts or ghastly wounds); one burned alive; lots of ugly critters, including a spider with attitude; triumph of good over evil; triumph of the little guy over the big guy; 3.5 hours long. If your kid can't sit still for that period of time, wait to rent it.

My comment to Tolkien-purists: It didn't exactly follow the books. Get over it.

My comment to Orlando Bloom/Legolas groupies: Put a bung in it. The rest of the audience is not interested in your hormonal imbalances.

My comment to people who attend dressed like orcs: Get a life.

My comment to normal adult-types: Don't go if you don't like fantasy. Otherwise, don't miss.
