My bf's mom died a year ago next month. It's hard, no matter what the circumstances surrounding the relationship. A mom is a mom. There's nothing you can do but be there for him and give him time and maybe some long hugs, but you already know that. My thoughts are with him and his family as they deal with this loss.

It may not be your story, but you're still affected by it.

I am very sorry to hear about The Socialists mother. It is virtually impossible to say anything of comfort other than to let you know that I will be thinking of him (and of you) through this difficult time.

In the more personal context of close relationships, you need not say anything to him. A hand held or a long hug express more than any words possibly can. You will be there for him and that is the important thing.

I will pray for all of you.

Losing a parent is a tough one.

I find that article quite interesting. Years ago I was beseiged by literature and requests for donations from PETA. Included in their literature (or shall I say propaganda) was a survey wanting my views on whether I thought extreme measures such as laboratory raids to "free" research animals was warranted. It was implied that they felt such measures were necessary and that anyone who disagreed was either unethical or a dim-wit.

It is my personal opinion that organisations such as PETA give true, caring animal activists a bad name and I would not be unhappy to see their tax exempt status revoked and criminal charges filed if said allegations are proven true.

ultimately, i don't think PETA fights the good fight but makes people less sympathic to animal causes. for shame, every group has its militants...

i can not even begin to imagine how losing a parent would feel... i am truly sorry.

As far as PETA goes... i had some friends in high school who were members... still are i think. They were borderline scarey. i agree that animals should be respected and treated well, but there IS a line you shouldn't cross.

mrwhippy uses the free return address labels (PETA sends out to raise funds) on correspondence to hopelessly-and-irrationally-suspicious-of-any-group-that-promotes-kindness-as-probably-being-a-front-for-Communists acquaintances, to get a rise out of them.

Can you recommend in your diary, some, not animal rights groups, but groups advocating humane treatment of animals, which you know to be trustworthy?

The last vet clinic I teched for regularly donated to Morris. They did this for special animals that we had to euthanize. I thought it was an awesome idea and it gave the clients some comfort too.

I contribute to our local Humane Society as well as the Delta Society.
Don't get me started on PETA. Personally I think most of the members are either extremely uninformed (and thinking they are doing something good) or just plain looney.

My thoughts are with you and the Socialist.

Now that I actually HAVE money to give to charity I grow more and more wary of giving it. The last three donations have been in the way of dog and cat food and cat litter. I get these glossy pleas for money and address labels etc. I know they have to advertise to get funding but I can't help but see all the flyers as food they are taking away from the animals they want to help.

My deepest sympathies go out to you both as well as the rest of her family.

I have to admit, I have a problem with PETA and the things they do.
