Users who sign up with Hotmail today by default have these personal data sharing options unchecked; but most Hotmail users will currently find "share my e-mail addresss" and "share my other registration information" checked.
I stumbled across the above article yesterday while checking on a virus that hit our company. I took a few minutes today and checked it out on my own hotmail accounts. It took some hunting around, but I found the new fields of which the article speaks, and sure enough, the "Share my email address and "Share my other registration information" boxes (which never even existed before) were checked! To say I was surprised is an understatement. It would also be an understatement to say I was annoyed. I wonder if that explains the explosion of junk mail I've seen over the past few weeks (voice dripping sarcasm). I have unchecked the boxes, but I suspect the damage has been done. Votaries of deception and avarice, the lot of them.
