Perhaps the most remarkable thing that happened was that the Younger Sister called to give me her regards on the anniversary of the transplant (as measured by the day-before-Memorial-Day as opposed as measuring from the actual date). She was calling from her new boyfriend's, which explained to me why there was no sister get-together this year. I imagine Elder Sister was off at a friend's barbecue. Younger sister also wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday. The question took me by surprise ... I hadn't expected to be asked. I promised to get an email out to her of the music I'd been looking for. It's a relief to know I won't be getting more clothes this year.
I got my garden planted this weekend. Well, mostly planted, anyhow. When I pulled the mulch that management had put down to one side so I could plant, I discovered a heavy layer of mold on the bottom layer. I also discovered that the plants killed by the mulch were all "scalded" at that point in the mulch. That explains why my sunflowers and miniature roses turned belly up. I purchased additional sunflower seeds, but it rained yesterday and I didn't get a chance to plant then.
The garden has a bit of an "English" flavor to it this year. I suppose the Canterbury Bells (which are still blooming away furiously) are responsible for that. Instead of the primary colors I wanted last year, I've done pinks and purples this year. It's going to take a little bit for it to fill in, but I'm pleased by my efforts.
Vegetable gardening will be done in planters. I'm really doing little more than herbs, but I did get the Socialist three pepper plants, each a different variety of hot pepper. I don't anticipate getting much use out of those myself, but I'm hoping he'll be happily heartburned all summer, with extras to dry and use this winter.
I've signed up to help at the local cat shelter's kitten races later this month. I've also signed up for the speaker classes being held at the end of the month by the organ donation society, with hopes that I'll be able to do volunteer speaking for them at different events. At work I'm being nominated for a rather high profile national humane animal handling committee. I'm not where I want to be in life, but I'm getting closer.
