I hate rumors and gossip. I have been victimized in gossip myself with tenants when I first moved into Burbank plaza in the first year. I was finding out who liked and disliked young and handicapped people in an apartment building for 62 and older tenants. It sucked but it stopped after a while and some of the troublemaker older adults who did not stop spreading crap all over the building, were asked to knock it off or they would be asked to move before eviction. It was sad back then that there were latterly very cruel tenants at Burbank Plaza that was Teamster Manor for several years before management changed its name to Burbank Plaza. Anyway, now at Garden Court Jackie is hearing talk about this place being red flagged for tear down and Jennifer the manager of GC be removed from here. This is avery bad rumor to be spreading and talking about or something bad is going to really happen to this building that has been around since 1979! Hearing this from my caregiver the other day and asking bee about it again today makes me wonder about the management and maintenance issues that have been going on since I’ve moved in 5 years ago (now working on my 6th year since October 1st). I, too, have personally experienced things not getting done like they should in the past 3 years now. I did NOT get a new air conditioner until this summer when I was fighting to get a new one for 3 years BECAUSE MY AIR CONDITIONER WAS WORKING PROPERLY FOR 3 years.
This is true that a flood has damaged the first floor of this building a few years ago when the Rock River flooded to the point very deep water was inside the building. Now this building has mold growing from the first floor walls up all seven floors today, and it has been a long time now that management has abided by the rules of HUD and low income housing, and will NOT fix any of the problems this building has been having. All that is wanted right now is money from tenants to. Pad their checkbooks. A tenant, who is a friend of mine, was evicted for supposedly NOT paying her rent for months, and my caregiver, Jackie, believes this really did happen, and I am inclined to agree 100% knowing this friend has done some real dumb stuff growing up before marrying her now deceased husband. Something, knowing this friend, tells me to believe that she got evicted because she didn’t pay rent for a while.
Also, in my own case, being a tenant at Garden Court, my WisPact account is a trust fund in Wisconsin that is NOT supposed to be used as income and management has overridden HUD policy of WisPact and added me spending over 410 a month last year until October 1, 2025, and today I only have to pay $395! They have really pissed Jackie off about this and with all that she could do to report it to the right people and they could NOT help me get any money bac/m from this fiasco. That is when we decided to find a new place to live and we are waiting for word and get out of here. Garden Court management and maintenance are not good people.
If this place has been red flagged here for a while now, its NOT GOOD!
With that ALL said, I do have to admit that I am beginning to understand WHY I was to move in here in 2020. I have a caregiver who really cares about some of the other tenants and of course me, who is bold enough to open her mouth to do what is right. Woohoo! I believe, although I am one person, I am to be one of those people to stand up for what I believe in. This building isn’t bad otherwise to be very honest with YOU. The management and maintenance is not good here is all! It’s the people running this place!
