I learned about something that had happened to my neighbor and friend when we were in a program called IDS (Independent Disability Services, formally known as UCP (United Cerebral Palsy). Since I moved to Garden Court on October 1, 2020, we have been neighbors despite being on different floors. We live in the same community. Something happened at GC (Garden Court) because management called me to get JP’s number. A moment or two later, I got a phone call from JP wanting information from me on a person’s name and who she worked for before ADRC took over. I texted that information like she asked me to do for her. She gave me the rundown of what happened at GC (Garden Court). What happened?
What Happened
A tenant and colleague of UCP/IDS was pushed by her worker. She had fallen and, from the push, gave the tenant a black eye. When JP told me this, my heart skipped a beat or two. JP also said to me that the police were looking for the worker. JP wanted me to send her essential information via text, and I did that for her. What that worker has done is considered elder abuse. This worker worked for me when I was with IDS, and we had a falling-out argument that ended my want to have her work for me. The view was that I was not going with her grocery shopping because my body was filling up with fluid due to my kidney no longer working correctly, and I had not begun hemodialysis yet because my blood counts were still good enough. My legs, using a walker at the time, could go only so far without my legs hurting and me being out of breath. I asked her if she wanted to quit or be fired, and she said I will stop before you fire me. When she said that, I mulled it over for only two to three hours and messaged the worker she would no longer be working with me.
The neighbor does not want or will not press charges against her worker. I have been told this neighbor wants a specific worker to be her payee and be her POA (Power of Attorney) and no longer the worker who gave her the black eye.
My Opinion is this:
I do not believe the worker pushed the client down and gave her a black eye. My neighbor loves to tell stories. This neighbor seeks attention regularly. If it did happen, my neighbor needs to fire and hire the gal who helps two girls in Garden Court. I trust only one person in this building with my life: DC. I will contact her when I can or wait to talk to her about anything.
