I was going to start with the usual: winge, complain, a little bit of self-proclaimed philosophy, but today's news beats it all and I feel compelled to say something about it. In the end of the day it could be The Begining of New Era. I think, it's great. No, I think, it is GREAT. This discovery can turn our world upside down and even if this won't happen in our time, there is always hope for the next generations. That's the thing, isn't it - whatever we do for ourselves, in truth we building up for the kids or our kids and their kids too. Even when we don't do something, we are still creating foundation of the tasks our children will have to face. I feel proud for the scientists of today, they must be so happy. Now they produced something so important, it gives them right to shake off the label of the Mad Scientist, of the geek from the Big Bang of the Misfit. At some point in future, when we all will be using new types of energy, new ways of transportation, new whatever else this discovery might help to create, somewhere someone will say: I've been at the begining of it all...how cool is that?! I was at the begining of it...well, not quite, let's say, from where I stood I saw the history in the making. My ex used to be in the one of the projects - Atlas experiment. I've been to CERN with him, I met these people, they were pretty un-distinquish at that time, but nice people nevertheless. You cannot be more then a human after all. And now they might be the ones to change the World and hopefully we all live to see that. and when I read this news today, I felt proud for the time we live in. At last, something worthy to add to the History Of Our Times.

- From:Misstick (Legacy)On:Thu Jul 05 2012Always happy to see those who follow me finally making it here :-)
- From:Angel eyes (Legacy)On:Sat Jul 07 2012Yes miss tick that particle discovery is exciting.although I read a few articles from cern and they said further work was needed to identify what was found-several statements in that vein but also saying it was almost 100 percent certain. anyway they make statements like- the last undiscovered particle-how can you test that. anyway just to give an honest comment, I am used to philosiphizing here, I believe in this kind of investigation and progress. but it has its limitations doesnt it.and I would reserve judgement until I see the results of this and like you say we may not see them in our life time.so then all we can say is it has the potential to help our short little visit on the planet. Will it make life easier? did the discovery of nuclear fission make our lives easier?no it made it worse.nuclear warfare threatens the very existence of the planet. but then yes there are many areas where scientific advance ment has helped us as in the medical field. also ok I am a beleiver in scientific research but I have to see the limitations or for me there is no argument and you know I always have the feeling when evaluating scientific progress- that there is always that need to master and control and when you look at the vastness of the universe I realize that this will never happen. and again will our short little lives on the planet be better for this.probably our happiness is based more on a religious beauty of our lives and love for all on the planet and a sense of charity. but yes we don't live with plagues, our life spans are extended and who wants to go to the river to wash their clothes.but then when our scientific progress threatens to destroy the planet through nuclear holocaust, the green hous effect then all I can say is I reserve judgement. but that is my own personal opinion. we are in the throws of tornado weather here, could this discovery aid us for example in controlling devastations such as these? and or..? yes I reserve judgement but so far progress hasnt helped us come too far.and all I can say is perhaps the potential is there to help our little lives on the planet.
- From:Misstick (Legacy)On:Mon Jul 09 2012I am of opinion that scientific progress never threatens to distroy. It is those who have the power to take it out of the context and make an evil use of it. None of the scientists who made the actual discovery had any plans to distroy, they would not have time to make their discovery if their minds would've been occupied with such crap. Looking in the history I can't help but notice how people who took control over one or another scientific breakthrough are nowehere scientifically minded at all. nuclear power is still the only cleanest known source of energy on our planet. Of course with the small print of "if maintained properly". it is all turns out to be up to those who use the science in their own advantage whether the knowledge designed to help, becomes the knowledge used to distroy.
- From:Angel eyes (Legacy)On:Sat Jul 07 2012and that is pretty exciting to think that we can travel light in removing this particle that causes mass but we have to make sure that we have somewhere worthwhile to travel to.it doesnt give us much time to turn back.haha. (comic relief)
- From:Angel eyes (Legacy)On:Sat Jul 07 2012and also Miss Tick, this braggadochio- about having discovered the mechanism that created the big bang causes a bang in my thinking haha haha.I would be veeeeeeeeeeeeery reluctant to believe that can you hear my laughter gurgling out of the black holes in space? we are limited by our senses and someone may say but yes we have this sophisticated equipment to investigate with -but I answer -yes but this is all created within the realm that we can observe there are other observations that we cannot see. but yes it is very exciting and congratulations to the team of scientists that brought this about to your ex.and how exciting that you were there. it seems surely that something will be done with this newly discovered knowledge.but when I hear scientists use the words "BEleive" it makes me smile, that word belongs to the realm of religion. great stuff but await the evidence................................haha.but the laughter has already been established
- From:Misstick (Legacy)On:Mon Jul 09 2012I agree with all said, evidences are what turns the belief into knowledge. I have to add also, it seems to me that the difference between religion and science is in what happens after the "belief" moment. Religion conciders the process complete and stays with belief from that moment on. Science starts moving in search of where this belief can be applied. The World would benefit so much from many beliefs of the faith, if only the religious institutions would ever care enough to extend the just witnessing the miracles onto figuring out how these miracles have been done. How many kids wouldn't die from starvation if only those who believe would do they best to find out how exactly one can turn five loaves of bread and two fish into amount enough to feed five thousand men...
