Impact On Sub Atomic Level
Tue Mar 30 2010

To my opinion this is how the real science should operate, running routinely on a background until - Bang! And we are suddenly propelled into the next level of Universe. And there was no need to blow the news out of proportion by the media, promising the End Of The World, us falling into the Black Hole created by Evil Scientists, etc&...like they did a couple of years ago, remember...

Imagine, these particles, invisible to the human eye, were accelerated to the speed closest to the speed of light (they claim 99.99%, though even if it's a lie, current books hold 40 000 km/h - Apollo 10 - as a high speed record for manned vehicle and the speed of light is somewhat 1,079 million km/h, still impressive, is it not?) The speed of light is the upper limit known by the science so far. And then there is that delightful, so very tempting exciting theory of special relativity, according to which "if something were travelling faster than the speed of light, it would be travelling backwards in time" if you'd think of it...of the possibilities endless...

I have mentioned  it once already that I have had personal interest in this project. Not because I wish to travel back in time, but because I knew and still know some of those very scientists who work on the project. Today though, when I heard the news, it triggered different emotion. In my previous life of A Wife, I used to be a wife of a scientist. Of someone who stood at the very beginning of what might potentially become a Discovery of the Century. My ex was a member of the LHC project team. Today the disappointment feels a little bit deeper then usual. Disappointment in someone who failed to make a history and choose to be a history instead. Or to make money, whatever, from what I've heard, he's making his money pretty well doing IT consultancy in one of the Russian banks now. I know many would say, money is always better choice over science. And perhaps, those many would be right. But you know what, Mr Many, for that rose-colored-glasses-girl in me there will be always more honour in serving the many as opposed to serving oneself. And if I would've have this opportunity to be at the source of something useful for humanity, I would consider my life's purpose fulfilled more then I could ever dream of.

...Just another disappointment lurking from the past...shush...you won't have me this time...
