Ok, so this is not about Roberta Flack’s song. This is about a course I’ve accidentally booked myself onto. Accidentally – because I didn’t think of it until few days ago a colleague of mine mentioned over the cup of coffee something about “gentle” martial art…so I’ve googled it, discovered that this was the very same thing I’ve been seeing a lot in the movies recently, only never knew that it called – Tai Chi. The combination of the wordings amused me enough to want to try it out. The Martial Art I knew before wasn’t about “soft” or “gentle” or even meditation.
It took me 10 minutes to find the nearest local training course and book it before I'll change my mind. So now I’m bound to attend all 10 introductory sessions. And today was my first one. I have to admit, it is cunningly disguised as an easy-any-age-or-shape slow motioned meditation, but in reality by the end of the session my muscles painfully reminded me I still got them. It wasn’t as easy as it looked at all. The most difficult part was to get my body synchronised. I mean, until today I didn’t know that when my feet move to one side, my torso – to another, then it is almost impossible to get my arms to move where they supposed to move, as this is not the same side as everything else was moving…oh well…tricky twists, I call it…I have strong suspicions that the definition of “gentle martial art” has this meaning for a reason. It certainly can kill you. And in a very gentle way too…
