Aunt Mary

The Beginning of My Day

Every morning, except every Wednesday and Saturday, Debbie H comes by 8:30 am to get me out of bed, dressed for the day, makes me breakfast before I leave for dialysis treatment for 3 hours on the machine at Fresenius Kidney Care. Today,  being a dialysis patient, my day started out normal and everything got done without any hitch. Not even a call from Jackie to slow things up a a bit. Anyway, I did what I do in the morning of today’s dialysis and day and got to dialysis by 11 am and sat an waited for my turn at the machine and today, I did not get hooked or tethered to a machine until 12:54 pm and was on until 3:54 pm and out the door by 4:00 pm and home by 4:20 pm where Deb met me to help me get in because Jackie was busy taking care of a situation that her MIL found when she went to visit her sister at Riverview Heights.

The Phone Call at the Noon Hour

While I was still sitting in the lobby to be called into the clinic for my time on the machine started to ring and announce Deb was calling. She called to tell me she was asked to get me in because Jackie’s Aunt Mary was found she passed away in her apartment by her MIL because she could not get to her aunt right away. Deb also asked if I have heard from Jackie and I haven’t. I felt bad hearing that Jackie’s Aunt had died at home and was found deceased. My heart broke. I was glad that it was not Jackie who found her gone!

Anxiety & Panic Began to Set In

A few minutes later, I began to think that when Jackie and I talked Tuesday evening when she got to my place after 5 pm because her Aunt Mary had fallen and called for an ambulance instead of her sister or Jackie, Jackie went to the ER to be with her aunt while she was being examined. MercyHealth had a couple of things that Jackie noticed was going on at MercyHealth ER and took her Aunt to Mercy North ER instead. Jackie and Aunt Mary found that she broke had tibia in one of bed legs and was put in a cast or boot to heal properly. I asked Jackie if Aunt Mary would have fallen on purpose to delay her (Jackie’s) departure for the weekend, and Jackie said ‘no’. Well, asking that question on Tuesday and Aunt Mary was found deceased Thursday morning by her sister (jackie’s MIL). Panic and anxiety began to work its way into my thought process that my asking Jackie if her Aunt Mary would do something in purpose to prevent her from leaving for her busyness over the weekend made the snowball to roll downhill to the end of the hill that Aunt Mary passed. I texted my thoughts and said what I needed to say and then she called me and said my asking if Aunt Mary did it on purpose was why she died unexpectedly. She said no. Mary had died due to her health being compromised and questionable lately. The hardest thing was the fact that Aunt Mary was only 68 years old. That age is still young for me to understand when someone dies when Jackie and I spoke again in the evening.

Anyway, my panic and anxiety began to wane before it became my turn to be dialyzed. Knowing that my catheter acts up when I am anxious, let the nurse know what happened this day before getting back there. In saying that, she knew that my catheter might act up during treatment today. She also reassured me that what I said about Jackie’s Aunt did not bring the snowball down the hill ending Mary’s life. My catheter did not act up and I went through treatment with no complications and complaints and got home by 4:15 pm with Deb coming in after I got home a minute or two before and had to wait.

Jackie and I talked for a few minutes after 7 pm. I was reassured a third time that Mary died of complications to her health due to having an UTI and the fall, breaking a leg, the other day was probably the reason why she passed. The coroner passed her death as accidental and nothing else of the fact that her body could not take anymore stress to it, and her UTI and broken leg was the reason why she passed away between last night and this morning when she was found deceased by her sister who was visiting. Now Jackie will have to come home from her being very busy next week or so to get Mary’s things out of the apartment at the Riverview Heights Apartments before the 1st of July so she doesn’t have to pay another month of rent. Now, I find that a little bit odd. Some places are so darn hungry for money these days than the lives of people and other living things that God created for the enjoyment of those who would love Him back.

Goodbye Aunt Mary

Even though I have only met Aunt Mary in April and saw her a couple of times, I know she will be missed and remembered fondly. When Jackie and I talked tonight, reminded me that she unexpectedly died under circumstances of her health being rough the past couple of weeks and her broken leg. The coroner did not find Aunt Mary’s suspicious. Jackie said she is in a better place and she will give me Aunt Mary’s lift chair when she packs Mary’s things to get everything out of the apartment. My meeting Aunt Mary was short and sweet before her death, but I met a nice person.

Note: I am sharing this in two places today on purpose
