90s Movies

In my continuing effort to catch up on all the adult movies I missed in the 90s because life revolved around raising kids, I watched The Man Without a Face last night, starring Mel Gibson. I'd forgotten how incredibly handsome he was before he went all cuckoo for cocoa puffs. The movie was good, the sort of drama I enjoy. But it made me think, there sure were a lot of boy coming of age movies during the 80s-90s, like The Sandlot, Stand by Me, A Christmas Story, Goonies, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, This Boys Life, My Life As a Dog, to name a few. I enjoyed them all. These days, everything seems to revolve around super heroes and make believe, which I guess isn't surprising, given current society.

Yesterday was cold and gloomy, with showers and a few rumblers in the afternoon. Today the temp is supposed to hit 80, but with t-storms. Will I get a bike ride in?? Even though it is wet this morning and only 51, it is very humid and feels so wonderful!

Because the week temps should be in the 60s and 70s, I took the electric blanket off the bed. Partly because of the temps but mostly because honey keeps turning it on! Friday night I was roasting, and when I reached over he was all sweaty. I swear his temperature regulator doesn't work, because he claims he doesn't know he is sweaty. So he wears heavy sweatpants/sweatshirts to bed, even in the summer, and says it is to catch the sweat. When I counter with trying not wearing heavy sweatsclothes so he isn't so hot, it makes no sense to him. That is one battle I gave up fighting long ago.

Homemade turkey black bean burgers for dinner this week. I'm going to mix in a cup of Minute Rice cilantro-lime rice, so I'm anxious to see how it works out.

I saw the Man Without A Face with a dear frIend of mine after I got done with woRK one afternoon. This is one movie she thought I would not understand, but she realized I DID understand the movie. Even though it was Mel Gibson’s character who had a face deformation because of an accident that took place, this man became friends with a boy in secret up to a point and from that day forward a friendship was made to the end of the movie made my disability cerebral palsy (CP) with my friend unique and a memory I will never forget how we became friends. Her mother came over, introduced herself, took me to their house across the street, and friendships came and went through the years to today in memories of three little girls and their little friend (me) and her maternal grandparents.
