Garden Planning

This morning I crossed the street to the lake path and there before me, less than 20 ft away, was an American Bald Eagle resting on the back of an Adirondack chair! It was so large and so nearby that I did a double-take, thinking it was a fake. Oh my! I slowly took out my phone in hopes of getting a pic, but alas, by the time I got my glove off, it was gone without a sound. But wow! What a sight!

Dentist appt today. I was going to take a long lunch, but work is so slow I'm going to take the entire afternoon off. And why not. I have a ton of vacation time to use.

I contacted the nursery where I used to work yesterday to inquire about what varieties of heliopsis they're going to carry this year and they sent me the entire spreadsheet of perennials for this year! I'm looking for lower maintenance perennials for my new garden that bloom most of the summer. I don't want to use the same old that everyone else has like echinacea and rudbeckia and monarda and phlox and ornamental grass. Borrrring. I have a few ideas now: pink dianthus, orange heliopsis, lavender nepeta. Maybe an asclepias or an aster.

Honey is fixing up his bike now too. Maybe that will be something active we can do together since he won't walk with me. My slowest pace is too fast for him. I absolutely hate when he is several paces behind me, especially when I am making an effort to go slowly. He also got in touch with the union out in CA about collecting his pension. The packet is in the mail! That is one huge step for him to undertake, without me prodding him or doing all the preliminary research work. He still hasn't signed up for Medicare yet though. One thing at a time!

35F this morning. The weather sure it taking its time warming up.

What a lot of nice choices! I'm thinking of getting some Vinca this year. I keep hoping to find something that will grow in a difficult spot.
