I now know it was daffodils I planted last fall,
as the first tips are poking out through the mulch. I've remembered I planted three groupings of daffodils under the mulberry trees. So far only one of the three groups is showing signs of life. The irises in the front yard are starting to come back to life too. And something nibbled on the miniature tulips coming up, so I sprayed them again with stinky stuff. I'll have to keep up with spraying weekly now.
But more importantly, isn't spring just the best birding time of year??
I got to see the swan mating dance again
this year! I wish I had more time to stop and watch longer but that dumb job gets in the way. At one point, before I got my camera out to film, they both flew up and into the air, and the sound of their wings hitting the water was so loud! Thwap thwap thwap. And then I could hear the whoosh of their wings in the air. In the foreground of my video are the Lesser Scaups.
The Hooded Merganser
was on the lake again too, but this time, he wasn't soaking wet. Such a beautiful bird!
I took my binoculars along this morning and can confirm I am seeing buffleheads on the pond.
And then this morning, these wild turkeys were on the path.
And not far from there, a tom turkey trying to attract the ladies. I do find male turkey behavior very predatory (if it were human)!
I have to say, of the 50+ houses we looked at, and of the 11 offers we put in, I'm so glad our first 10 offers were rejected. We are so very fortunate to have this house, so close to a lake, a wetland, a wooded park, and nearby access to miles of paved trails, but all in the heart of the city. Of all the houses, this one has the best of all worlds.
I still haven't taken the bike for a ride because even tho the temp is upper 50s, the wind is strong and cold and I know I wouldn't enjoy the ride very much. So I continue to wait for that first real ride. I did add a bell on the handlebars. I'd read an article from a few years ago from a 'real' bicyclist that when he called out 'on your left' it made walkers jump, sometimes into his path. When he switched to a bell, he noticed people didn't startle as much. I can attest to that, as I am one of those jumpers who startle easily when someone yells, and find hearing a bell a much better warning.
If it were nicer out, I'd have taken some time off this week since work is so slow, but why waste time off on lousy weather?
Checked my online clinic app and some bozo had reinstated my insurance on file to insurance from over a decade ago with my current insurance as secondary. So I deleted it. Not sure who did that or why they would think it was okay to reinstate old insurance without my confirmation. I'm especially confused because it wasn't there last summer when I last used it. Argggh!
Getting more concerned about honey. I brought up a story he told me that had occurred sometime in the past two years, about the red heifer and end times and his coworker and Google searches. And he has no memory of it. None. Not even a vague recollection, even when I repeated the entire story. He's been having these mid-memory lapses more frequently. At first, I was dismissing it as him not listening to me, but since this was his story he told me, I'm starting to wonder. And is it connected to him telling me the same stories from long ago over and over and over, as though I've never heard them before?
