Sun Mar 22 2026 - A Beautiful Day. A Beautiful Loaf.
A Beautiful Day. A Beautiful Loaf.

This is the most beautiful loaf of bread I have ever seen! Not one to go on and on about food, but I saw this loaf in the grocery, I squeezed it gently to see if it was soft, and I couldn't believe my eyes, because it was GLUTEN FREE! So I bought it, expecting to be disappointed yet again by a promising loaf of GF bread, disappointed by the texture and/or the taste. But I was not. It was AMAZING! I toasted the first piece. Amazing. And then later in the day went daring and took a piece right out of the bag and put a little butter on it and OMG! It was the real thing! Real bread! I don't know how they did it, but I'm glad they did. Having been gluten-free for almost 30 yrs out of necessity (and long before it was a fad), I have tried every GF bread out there, starting with the cardboard-like Ener-G which was the only commercial loaf available at the time, to a local bakery whose bread tasted funky, to the dried out Udi's to the dry but fluffier Canyon Bakehouse to the dense BFree to Little Northern Bakehouse to Schar which is is my current choice because it doesn't crumble and has no odd flavor, but I still have to toast it and each slice is teeny-weeny. I basically just gave up on bread. But this new brand, "Promise" might change my mind. Especially if I can eat a piece right out of the bag.

Yesterday was a beautiful day. It got up to 78F (a record temp for the day) so of course I took a walk. I started out with dog but realized a few blocks later that I would aggravate my wrist trying to rein him in whenever we passed someone, so I took him home and went by myself for a wonderful 4-miler. Afterwards, I sat out in the sun reading. It was weird being surrounded by warm air but facing snow! The snow in the backyard is gone, the only snow that remains is on the northside of our homes.

I booked a cabin for the last week in July. It is right on the shore of Lake Superior near the Porcupine Mountains, facing west. Now that that is done, I can schedule all my annual medical appointments like eyes, mammogram, physical.

Need to shop for granddaughter's birthday today. I just don't know what to get kids anymore. With the eight cousins so close in age, toys and clothes go from house to house and the kids have everything!

The wrist is getting better but it will be awhile until I can put any real weight on it. The bruising has gone from red and purple to green and yellow.

Ordered a pair of high-waisted swim shorts for vacation. I feel too fat to wear a bathing suit. I am convinced I have lipedema though, because despite brisk daily walks and eating average 1200 calories, my thighs continue to get fatter and more lumpy. I really don’t think I can cut out anymore calories and still get nutritional requirements. But what do I know? Only that my lifelong hate for my body continues.
