Puttering.

I've had to do things in reverse this morning. The newspaper site is down, so no newspaper yet to start the day (or at least I can't log in. But I tried both library cards, and neither works.) It is not a big loss, the only thing I'll really miss are the comics that I can't find elsewhere online for free. I do not regret for a minute having canceled my 35-yr newspaper subscription. It is all old news anyway. I read it for the comics, recipes, entertainment. The free newspaper from the library covers it. And hey, it's not 'free' anyway in that we pay taxes to maintain libraries so...

I think something is going on radio/internet-wise because my radio station keeps going off for several minutes at a time. Maybe our satellites are being destroyed or we're being bombed, but I wouldn't know because the newspaper only prints old news haha.

Paid my $3500 credit bill yesterday (which has the house insurance charge on it) AND my $2400 property tax bill yesterday. Oof. Feeling very poor. I discussed my fear of retiring with honey last night because I won't be getting much from Social Security, or at least not enough to maintain what I have. (Not that SS will be around for much longer anyway. Thanks, boomers, for taking care of yourselves and not thinking of other generations.) He has the pension and SS and even though he earns the same as me now, his top ten years were in California where the pay scale is much higher. So he doesn't have the same fears as I. I'm stashing away as much as I can in my 401k and HSA, and I have the IRA, but still I fear retiring. I'll probably end up working some job until I keel over.

Dentist went well. I'll go back in July to get my lower front teeth bonded because they are so chipped. We're trying to keep them from chipping more or worse, cracking. I have given up eating sunflower seeds, so the bonding should stay in place longer than last time.

It was so chilly and windy and cloudy yesterday after the dentist that I didn't feel like working more on the garden or even digging dandelions. So I puttered. Brought out and set up the second rain barrel. Put ant bait traps outside. Vacuumed. Cleaned the seat cover where dog sits in my car. Washed his bedding. I'm sure there was other more boring stuff so uneventful that I can't remember.

Oh! And I bought one of these, a sorbaria "Sem False Spirea" to anchor the new garden on the right side. The new growth is beautiful and it will blossom on and off all summer.

Saw this house being torn down this morning. There had been a For Sale sign, but I thought the sign was for the lot next to it. Oh how I hate seeing this, there is so much that could have been salvaged.

The only good part of the video is about halfway, an Oriole is singing cheerfully. If it only knew what is to come.... Someone is going to build an ugly mini-mansion that does not fit in with the park-like surrounding. There's just too much money in the hands of the wrong people. Reminds me of the new neighbors I once had who bought an existing house on a wooded lot...only to cut down the trees!! Like it made zero sense why someone would buy the wooded lot. It's not like it was a one-of-a-kind house, it was just your typical builder model. But again, money in the hands of the wrong people.

It was 34F this morning. Ugh.

Oh that layout isn't ideal is it.. Let me see if there's anything I can do about that!

That's better 😊
