Added a new bird to my list yesterday, an Eastern Kingbird, a boring gray and white robin-sized bird. The only reason I noticed it was because it was sitting on the branches of a dead tree over the lake. I'm up to 86 birds seen in the upper midwest alone.
Walked dog in the morning and after prepping my meals, I walked to the grocery for a total of 5.5 miles for the day. Dropped off the food scraps at the compost. Did some reading outside. And then took a ride on the Gateway Trail for 11 miles. After dinner, I mowed. According to Cronometer I ate 1250 calories and exercised off 875 calories. But I can guarantee that my weight will not change, even temporarily. Despite all the additional exercise the last two months and cutting back calories, my weight remains unchanged. I guess this is my new reality, a soft mushy body.
Middle called me last night. He's feeling better mentally and trying to make social connections again. He said he's had the most success with people in the Buddhist meditation group, which doesn't surprise me. The referral psychiatrist's office finally called him on Friday so he needs to follow up. But will he??? Now that he's feeling better, he may think he doesn't need help. On the other hand, he's worried that insurance won't cover it, a reasonable concern. We talked a lot more about food and prepping ahead of time, and frozen fruits and vegetables, and protein powder.
Lunch this week is kale/cabbage salad (had to use up that big bag of kale from last week) with blueberries in homemade yogurt honey mustard dressing, watermelon (yay!) and dinner is grilled chicken leg and elote with baked beans as a side.
Otherwise, life goes on. I did some more exploring online for our upcoming vacation. I really want to take our bikes so we can ferry them over to Madeline Island, but I don’t know if I can convince honey. I really want to get a trailer hitch and bike rack so I can explore more trails around here too.
The rash is clearing up, thank goodness.
Weather is going to be on the cool side at least for the week, low 70s/upper 60s for highs. It was 53F this morning. But at least it is open window weather.

Wow..... I have to say... you all have WAY more bird species back east than we do out here in the west! I'm a little bit jealous! Ha!
I think we're fortunate in that we have a little of everything- lakes, rivers, forests, prairie - which allows a great variety of birds. And the Mississippi River is the path of migrating birds, so we get birds just passing through in spring and fall. But in the winter? Maybe only a dozen live here year round!
