Mon Apr 20 2026 - Productive Sunday.
Productive Sunday.

Took dog for a walk yesterday. When we got home and I removed the leash, he took off after a rabbit, went across the street and followed the rabbit...belly-on-the-ground and under a chain link fence belonging to a landscaper half a block over. By the time I got over there, dog had given up the chase but couldn't figure out how to get back out. I couldn't either for a minute, because the hole under the fence was less than a 8" high and the fence bent going in, not out. And the landscaper business was closed. So I sat on the ground and used my feet to push the bottom of the fence further in and up, patted the ground, and dog got on his belly and crawled himself out without a scratch! Phew! I noticed this morning there is a larger hole further down, should dog ever do it again. Maybe I should pile some logs there???

That stupid tom is out again this morning, gobbling away. It sounds like a small dog barking.

I can finally confirm that I have been hearing Sandhill Cranes, as a pair flew overhead while I was walking this morning. Saw a Pileated Woodpecker too.

Otherwise, I had a very productive Sunday.

Once I had my meals prepped for the week, I decided to get some seeds started. Orange thunbergia for the pots by the steps and some pink zinnias and lilac zinnias to surround. I love orange/pink/lilac combined in a pot. And I'm trying to attract some bees and butterflies. Honey and I talked about putting the arch somewhere else, so I'm thinking of incorporating it into the area where I plan to put the raised garden. I have an idea in mind already, and maybe honeysuckle vine??

I also needed to vacuum yesterday so I pulled out the vacuum and checked the bag (it was full) so I removed it and...I didn't have any spares! And the vacuum stores aren't open on Sundays. So I ended up on my hands and knees using the hand vac with the beater bar to do the area rug and entry rug. Fun times! At least I could do the rest of the house standing up with the stick vac. But what a pain. I placed an order for bags from Amazon. And then when I talked to honey in the evening, he looked and there were six bags there. Dang. I must have bought bags when I had the vacuum repaired last year before I took the vacuum to my house.

Took the food scraps to the compost site. Took a 30-minute nap.

Dinner is Italian veggie bake. Italian ground turkey, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, peppers, mushrooms, a jar of spaghetti sauce. I cut down calories by replacing a cup of mozzarella with a cup of cottage cheese and using nutritional yeast for parmesan.

Have I mentioned how happy I am that there are now gluten-free cheez-its??

Work should be slower this week now that NYC is done. I hope not too slow though.

60F today and looks like bike-rideable weather Tues and Wed hopefully.

I think I could be friends with that person, but I wouldn't even attempt to try. Been down that rejection road too many times.

And I'm seeing a pattern. Just saying.

You should see the turkey show we have here! When the two main groups get together, as they do once in a while, we have about 42 turkeys roaming through the yard. Only thing is, they DO run away when chased. Thank goodness.

Wow!! I don't think I've seen that many turkeys together at one time...except at the turkey farm 😊 I'm finding these city animals are a lot more human tolerant than the country animals where I used to live.
