A Wonderful Evening

It was a wonderful evening yesterday. The humidity was high, the temp 80. It was my kind of perfect summer evening. I went to a free outdoor barbershop showcase. Mens and womens and mixed quartets. It was really enjoyable. This is what I moved to the city for--being able to zip over to an event in 5 minutes (or bike in 15) and not having to plan a day trip with long drives both ways. When I got home from that, I sat outside reading until 10pm. While reading, I heard the first cicada of the season. I absolutely love that sound! It is the sound of summer. Fireflies danced in the yard. Like I said, a wonderful evening.

Had two appointments yesterday. The first was with a dermatologist for an all-over skin check. I'd never had it done before and since two tannish spots appeared on my back maybe 2 years ago, and I had two other things on my face, I thought I should get it all checked out. I made the appointment last fall, and this was the earliest I could get in. Anyway, I'm all clear. And, since I don’t need Paps smears anymore (and therefore no need for a gynecologist), she'll take over the management of the lichen sclerosus from the gynecologist as well. Yay! No more driving 50 miles to the gyn in my former town.

I thought for sure the dr would find something, because I lived in the sun for years when a child and teen, I've gardened my entire life, and only used sunscreen when I went to the ocean. That person that used to be a sister is always getting things removed by the dermatologist so I thought I would too. It kind of made me shake my head at her once again. She dumped a really nice man she'd dated for several years because he had the potential to get heart disease because of his cholesterol and she decided she did not want to be involved with someone who might get ill because she didn't want to be burdened with that and have to take care of him. And yet she is a borderline T2 diabetic with pre-cancerous skin growths and frequently breaks bones because of osteoporosis. I lost count of how many times she had covid. So it's kind of ironic that she drops a healthy person for what he may develop when she is a health mess herself.

After the dermatologist, I took a 4.5 mi walk. It was good. I even stopped to literally smell some roses. And I caught this beautiful creature at rest:

Swallowtails--black or yellow--are such beautiful butterflies!

Took a quick shower then headed to the next appointment...the mammogram. It went as fine as mammograms can go. But what I have to mention is just how everyone in this medical practice are so upbeat and friendly from check-in to nursing to doctors. And it was the same at the clinic-owned hospital when I was there last summer. I just can't say enough about how I appreciate being seen and heard. Friendliness is contagious. I think more people should try it.

Stopped at Marshalls afterward, since it was nearby. I found some sunscreen to use on the vacation that doesn't contain aloe which is not easy to find, a shower cap, and a weighted stuffed animal that will work perfectly to hold my tablet in bed. It's been awhile since I bought sunscreen, so I was fascinated to see it came in stick form now, like deodorant.

Another thunderstorm overnight. This time I heard it though, lol! I'm still waiting for it to clear up before I take a walk today. It is still quite wet out and the horse flies have been awful--this is perfect weather for them--so waiting a bit until things dry out will reduce how annoying they are. I may take dog along, as he seems to be a horse fly magnet and then they leave me alone.

If it stays dry, the grandkids may come over for the puppet wagon at my neighborhood park.

I ordered a water play table for youngest grandson. I think I will get it put together first and bring it over ready to use.

I don't think we even HAVE that kind of butterfly here! The biggest one is a yellow and black.

But I think my favorites are the little blue ones that come and drink in the gravel after I have watered the garden.
