Coyotes

Well. That was a treacherous walk this morning. Rain overnight on top of the ice from Sunday, on top of the snow/ice from the previous week. Incredibly slippery! The only thing missing was the zamboni! My feet were wet when i got home, even with leather boots on.

The coyotes were howling last evening, very close by and several of them. I couldn't see them from my windows, but they were so close that when I opened my creaky outside door to get a better idea of where they were, they stopped howling. I wonder what they caught? Rabbit? Cat? Neighbor's yippy little dog?

Finished Pachinko last night. Two thumbs up. The miniseries is on AppleTV so I won't be watching it. Next up, The Book Woman's Daughter. I enjoyed The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek several years ago, so this one should be good too. I can only read an Appalachian-based book every now and then though, or they all start sounding like the same book. Listening to Run by Ann Patchett. The story is good so far, but the narrator is not very good. I'm trying to focus on the story and not the voice.

Work was crazy-busy yesterday. Went from 0 to 60. It wasn't unexpected since schools are back in session, I just didn't expect it all on the first day back. And it doesn't help that one of our team members is out this week, so we have to pick up the slack. Oh well, I'd rather be busy than trying to find something to do. Had to do my bi-monthly IT security training yesterday too. This time it was about AI. It was pretty scary how your voice can be copied by hackers and used by AI to imitate you on a live phone call. I still can't believe that AI was allowed to be released to the public with no limitations in place. All the more reason to remove your social media presence. I'm also shocked at how some people are so attached to it already! That speaks VOLUMES to the (lack of) intelligence of the public in general. Already we're receiving reports on how dangerous it is, how it basically just brags you up. Just what we need, a bunch more narcissists running around blaming everyone else for their problems. Sigh. I miss critical thinkers.

Watched another service from the UU church, this one from August, and the pews were still full. The congregation are very strong singers. I like how joy is mentioned at every service so far. I like how laughter is a regular part of the service. I'm going to keep watching.

Notable for the last 24 hrs:

  • Governor withdraws from running for a 3rd term. Yay! Now hopefully we can retain Dem control of the state.
  • Coyotes doing their thing last night.
  • Delicious dinner of marinara with Italian turkey sausage served over steamed broccoli and green beans. Yum!

Lost the entry I had started writing earlier this morning, so had to start over. Note to self: save your entry before walking away for a few minutes!

Just curious about your comment about people being attached to AI. In what way are you observing that?

I think the word I should have used was dependent rather than attached. I read diaries on another site, and over and over I read 'I asked Chat GPT to.." instead of doing the research themselves or forming their own opinions based on their own research. And many people use it to analyze their diaries and report the findings on what wonderful writers and people ChatGPT thinks they are. (I would beg to differ in some cases.) I can tell at least one person now let's it write their entries for them because their writing style changed and is more choppy in the AI way. I won't be an adapter because I prefer to continue to challenge myself rather than let something else do the work for me.

I made it out to trail this morning finally after as cold as it has been it felt good and Lulu loved it, no coyotes in this area which is good as my friend i walk with has 5 dogs and with my Lulu that makes 6 we have had some pretty exciting walks can’t wait for summer
