today's horriblescope:

By almost any definition, Virgo is in love. Sudden happiness feels like a gift or victory at this time of year. Missing persons and lost items come back home. You've returned to the perfect starting point.

last night i watched the Nutcracker on PBS performed by the Royal Ballet. ballerinas are beautiful. i also caught some of the Holiday Concert for the Troops...Cyndi Lauper still rocks! what a set of pipes that woman has...

i've had it up the wazoo with radio stations playing Christmas carols. enough is enough. at this point i can only tolerate Chrissy Hynde's rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and Lennon's "War is Over/Happy Christmas" (but that's wearing thin as well although it's probably the only Yoko involved song i can actually stomach).

i do hope some television station has pity on me and shows "March of the Wooden Soldiers". what a classic family flick. every year, my brothers and sisters and i watched it. when i was little, the bogie men scared me. so did Barnaby. (his walk i later adapted to mock my old jazz dance teacher, fit him to a T). as we got older, we watched because it was just tradition. and also to get a laugh at the expense of Tom Tom, "oh Tom, Tom". My favorite scenes?

-the mouse dropping "bombs" from the blimp
-the full grown man in a cat suit (c'mon now!)
-the 3 little pigs kicking some butt- :-)
-Barnaby getting hit on the head and his hat knocked off with a pee wee.
-Dee and Dum marching along with the soldiers as they get ready to fight. classic.

Toyland, toyland,

Little girl and boy land,
While you dwell within it,
You are ever happy then.

Childhood, joyland,
Mystic merry toyland,
Once you pass its borders,
You can ne'er return again.

yes. i did watch the Wizard of Oz a few weeks ago. unfortunately i have yet to watch it while listening to Pink Floyd. i love those 3 lollipop guild kids. hehehe.

the way i see it, the holidays should bring out a little bit of the child we squelch each day pretending to be adults. a sense of wonder and magic, a little bit of sparkle and warmness, a little bit of hope...it's all in there, admit it and glow.

:-D

Victor Herbert wrote "Toyland"? You're kidding. I never knew that. He wrote "Sweet Mystery of Life" didn't he? That seems like one of those basic facts I should've have known. I feel like a dunce.

I'm not sure the little kid in me is coming out, but the big kid in me is certainly enjoying the season. I'm not looking forward to gifts or dinners or socialization, but just the chance to spend some time and reflect.
