.
it's great thursday. a weekly tease to finally getting cut loose from workdays and grumpy cool mornings. i've been hitting the sack pretty early (the earliest, 8:30pm). i'm exhausted and don't know why. i've cracked open Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, but i'm beginning to realize i should have read it before i read his hit bestseller.
i've cut out the morning coffee for the past 3 days and it does affect my pms symptoms. i've had less cramps. but alas, sweet thursday puts so much optimism in this little heart that i broke down and am having coffee as i write this. plus, i had a damned brownie for breakfast! ;-) i'm alive only once. i ate the brownie and thoroughly enjoyed it because that's what's supposed to happen.

i've been working on an old family heirloom kinda photograph of my grandparent's wedding photo. my uncle is in pretty poor health and doesn't own a copy of this photo of his parents. the problem with having it duplicated was that the photo could not be removed from the frame (a beautiful oval antique frame) without getting damaged. so i had the bright idea of photographing the photo in the frame using my digital camera. this way i could take a few shots of it with minimal glare from the glass, save it on diskette and use photoshop to clean it up. it took me about 4 hours to get rid of the big white spot. it wasn't easy because the picture has a sepia tone to it and part of it is an actual photo with some parts painted (part of the wedding dress, veil, tie, and parts of the trousers). i finally got to where i was pretty satisfied with the clean-up job and saved the file to a new diskette. the plan was to use a kodak picture maker to print the photo, buy a frame and ship it to my uncle who, i hope, will be happy with the result. now i have a glimpse of what picture restoration is about and why it costs so much. it is ALOT of work. i have to say that i was pretty amazed with the kodak picture maker. what a great idea that was...

yesterday's news was horrific. can't believe that the ferry crashed into the dock. i've been on the ferry a few times, an old boyfriend used to live in Staten Island. it's a really nice ride from lower Manhatten. i paid a quarter one-way. coming back was free. i can't imagine how those folk felt yesterday. they're all probably still in shock. sad news. what the hell else? nevermind the gaza strip killings. i'm so damned tired of hearing about that part of the world. (i really just need to stop watching the news)

finally. Sylvia opens tomorrow. one of my all time favorite female poets. plus, Ms. Paltrow was an awesome choice to play her. i hate that there are plenty of people out there that kind of glamourize her suicide. there's nothing gorgeous about putting your head in the oven and turning it on while your kids are upstairs. she even took the care to put a towel at the bottom of the door so the fumes wouldn't permeate through the rest of the house. the real tragedy was her cheating ass husband. but that was really the spark that fueled some of her best writing. i suspect behind every genius is some pretty intense tragedy/pain. i vow to NEVER loan any of my books out again. i had a very dear copy of Ariel (collection of poems) that was given to me by my best male friend and unfortunately let one of my fellow students borrow it. i never saw it again. i hate losing books, but especially books that mean something to me. anyhow...
as per usual, Angel was hilarious and scary at the same time. last night's episode sort of reminded me of Delicatessen, a really morbidly funny flick about new tenants in an apartment building that eventually become dinner. one of my favorite scenes is of the main character painting his room. very charlie chaplin-like...(the film I Like It Like That ripped this sequence off when you see the 2 lovers going at it in one room, the lady downstairs hitting the ceiling with the broom because of the noise, someone else beating a carpet against the building bricks, it all has a rhythm to it...) anyhow....next week's Angel episode promises to be a really great one.... parental discretion advised, some nudity (SPIKE)....yeow! hey! i'm still psyched that he's 41!!! very freakin' cool.

too bad it's not friday,
soon enough, soon enough.
i'll be sending a box plastered with Babylon 5 photographs to my buddy for her birthday. she's a really big fan. i'm filling it with a book on the Tarot, chocolates, scented candles, a mixed tape, and perhaps a pretty blank Journal

not much else going on. i want to go back to sleep now...

read very sad sad news today. i will go home and hug and kiss my babies. they drive me nuts sometimes, but i can't imagine not having them in my life. they are pure love and fun wrapped up in fur, whiskers, and claws...

Sylvia is open ALREADY? Why did I think it was *next* month?
I have a paperback copy of Ariel that I purchased years ago. I actually found it a little frustrating; I knew that I was missing things in many of the poems, that some of the most important truths were going right over my head. I admire Plath, but I definitely need footnotes to keep up with her.

nope, it does open 10/17!!
the book "The Savage God" is a wonderful insight to her life...
there is a trailer link in the movie section of USA Today online.

News of the ferry accident put the man in shock too. Very sad.
I've had my nose stuck inside of history books for long I've come to the conclusion that there is a lot of ficticious historical propaganda being taught.
I hate to admit it but I'm caught up in the mini series ''Carnival''.
The photo restoration: Bravo, the pains you took to do it will make your Uncle very happy.
Enjoy your Thursday =)

Sylvia, that's cool. I honestly had not heard. That should be worth checking out.
I have gotten extremely careful about book-lending myself. I have lost two very dear books because of generosity.
News: reality is highly over-rated.

I saw this in this morning's NYT and had to let you know: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/17/movies/17SYLV.html
It seems they're quite pleased with "Sylvia".
