finding the predicament that the dixie chicks find themselves in a little bit amusing. someone must have told them that perhaps taking their clothes off for the cover of entertainment weekly would divert attention from maines' mouth to their boobs.
hammers home the fact that we need more Bob Dylans, more Tracy Chapmans and Ani DeFrancos, Lucinda Williams' in this world.
of course madonna back pedaled before scandal. was quoted as saying something to the effect that "they" (the public) will punish you if they don't like what you do or say. noone ever complains when the public throws their hard-earned dollars at them.
the toasters are protesting the loss of their bread.
you can always tell when an artist loses a little of their art, money becomes the goal instead.
maybe that's why i love the first few years of a band's or artist's musical life. the music seems raw, fresh, honest, not contrived. something about money ruins it all.
