sex* and books and rock 'n' roll
"Literature has always thrived in private, whether it's the inspiring squalor of the garret or the musty, secret smell of an old book that crackles as you turn the pages. Replace that smell with the odor of cigarette smoke, swap the English Breakfast for a pint of lager and trade the comfy chair for a pair of dancing shoes, and you're on the way to The 215 Festival."

Sam Adams, Philadelphia City Paper

the 215 festival is happening here oct 8-12 and who the heck knows, i may just go and check out patti smith. she'll be at the big library reading her poetry and singing some songs. last time i saw her perform was at fleagh (flah) at randall's island. i had a few pints of guinness and made my shamrock in the head last to the very end. the one other time i saw her was at a starbuck's downtown (nyc) with her son. she's a tiny woman, thin and short. i and my companion had been at a concert and we ducked in there to get a cup of joe. didn't say anything to her. why the hell would i?

that's the beauty of ny. stars i've spotted:
yoko ono 2x with sean
andy warhol (camera in hand)
tommy tune and twiggy (one tall dude)
various soap stars
i forget who else...doesn't matter anyhow.

well, it seems i'm taking a little trip for the holidays. it'll be short but welcomed. a change of scenery would be nice.

pretty chilly out there. i actually contemplated wearing a coat. did wear gloves, i hate having cold hands. somehow, i hold off as long as possible wearing a coat. i don't want to give into the cold coming...the winter around the corner. i did pack all of the summer things away and unpacked sweaters and scarves and gloves.

i'm a stubborn fickle woman. i love the warm weather but hate humidity. i love the beautiful clear skies but don't really care for the cold.

morning scene:
a billion birds flying as one they undulate in cool air pass quickly overhead, a scarf unfolded silk feathers, then gone.

a glimpse of natural beauty. my morning gift for looking up.

I saw that Patti Smith was going to be in town - my alma mater keeps papering me with announcements about it. I was more curious about checking out her art exhibit, to tell the truth, although it would be interesting to hear her as well.

I saw a robin as I drove into work this morning, the first I'd seen in a couple of weeks. I immediately thought, "That's probably the last robin for this season." It was a bittersweet moment, but it did lift my mood a bit. I hope he has a pleasant vacation down south this winter.

I often feel that way about weather. I get cold very easily and have been in a coat all week.
