moonbeams, and sailed
on shooting stars
what can i say? the band was flawless even with mishaps and mayhem. the little man doing his crazy dancing. smiling, beaming even. he was smitten with the crowd. what a sea of people. mostly young kids. college, high school. saw some older couples. middle-age america looking like they took a wrong turn somewhere in society hill, found themselves on a ferry heading towards the concert hall.
i can't remember the set list. all i know is that they played lots of OK Computer, some Kid A and lots of Hail to the Thief. the lighting was fantastic. the sound was fantastic. the electronic special effects were excellent, especially with Kid A and National Anthem. Sail to the Moon was beautiful. Thom's voice was clear and wonderful. i knew nothing would compare to hearing him live. and he gave us an acapella treat after finishing Karma Police, by singing "for a minute there, i lost myself, i lost myself"... what a wonderful moment. it was like he was connecting with us.
the best part, really, was watching the band enjoy themselves. They were all on fire.
low part of the concert?
having 4 stupid college-aged guys, stoned out of their minds, drunk as skunks, swaying to freakin' everything including in between the songs. yep. i'm fuck'n getting too old to deal with precisely the kind of stunods radiohead puts down in their songs.
one particular line comes in mind, 'boys in first class don't know we're born just know someone else is gonna come & clean it up"
my proposal is to corrale all of the people that want to get fucked up with drugs, put them into their own section where they can pee, block, bump into, and generally annoy eachother. leave the rest of us that would Like to remember the concert enjoy it in peace with a view not blocked by knuckleheads.
that is one thing i've only done once. way back when, going to an REM concert at radiocity music hall with an ex-boyfriend...we got stoned in the park, and on our way into the concert, i complained about not feeling my legs. it was a dumb fucking experience and i've never ever done it again whenever i went to a concert. it may sound corny, but i want the music, the performance to get me high.
that's the end of that.
what i've learned?
taking a ferry ride across the delaware to go to a concert is very cool. seeing a great band in a relatively small venue is very cool. But, next time, it's the mosh pit or nothing unless they play a venue that has room for only 400.

i'm tired as hell. i'm sore as hell. i'm a little bit poorer too. $4.00 for a bottle of water is beyond insulting. raping the fans is what i call it. my calves and feet are killing me. but right now, if it's the last concert i ever see, i can say, "i was there" "i saw radiohead kick philly's ass with their English Brilliance"
no alarms and no surprises here.
