Tue May 13 2003 - row, row, row.
row, row, row.
i'm doing it. for a couple of years now, i've been wanting to learn how to row. every summer on the bus rides to and from the city, i see them...those wonderful scullers. in perfect rhythm, oars dipping into and pushing water. a good friend of mine sent me an email of an article, "Hitting their Stride" written by Kendra Nordin (The Christian Science Monitor) 5/7/2003. the article is about the rise of a new generation of female atheletes ages 35+. women are tapping into the athelete in themselves and i'm loving it. sometimes when i hit the gym, i feel as if i'm too "old". i rarely see women my age at the gym i go to pumping iron. sometimes it's a little discouraging being surrounded by young loud and often distracted people. that's why i opt for going after peak hours and early saturday morning. that's when you'll find more serious and focused individuals. there is a mutual respect and no loud rap or rave crap.

i can't say it enough. the human body was made to move. and the benefits of moving, whether it be a walk around the block a few times, or taking the stairs, are endless.

one dream that i have that i know i never will be able to do...is to participate in the ironman triathlon in Hawaii. that would be too amazing to even begin to think about...

another dream that i have is to run a marathon (preferably the nyc marathon)by age 40. this is a little bit more within my reach.
~~~
but for now, i'll plan on registering for rowing lessons.
read the latest book by Tim LaHaye and pal, "Armageddon", book 11 from the left behind series about the rapture and basically the book of Revelations. was a little disappointed, but still hooked.
am currently reading, "the Nanny Diaries". hilarious and, at the same time, a little sad.
videos checked out from the library:
Bounce (Paltrow and Affleck)
Raging Bull (DeNiro)*** never saw it, thought it was about damn time!
videos to find and check out:
Life as a House (Kevin Kline..who came into an old workplace of mine with his wife and kid, and who promptly plopped down on the floor in between the stacks of the children's room)
to do summer list:
learn to row
get permit
take driving lessons
make plans for large animal practicum for fall? or next spring...(foaling season)
read more books
possibly get a part-time job so that i can get a dvd player and buy all the currently available Buffy the Vampire Slayer dvd's. (the dvd/bufffy part is low on the priority list)
Palimpsest (Legacy)
from "Sculling the Potomac," by Betty MacDonald:
Wading herons look askance
As if to say flying is better.
Not able to compare,
This gliding is what makes me soar.
