Update On My Health

Hospital Visit Last Week

Ok…

I am working on my evaluation to have my name on the kidney transplant list with Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The only 3 things left to do is the colonoscopy, getting my teeth fixed and pulled to have a set of good teeth again because medication have made my teeth go bad through the 37 years since I started medication for my transplanted kidney thanks to my mom who was 44 going on 45 in March 1988. Thanks to my mom, my kidney transplant lasted 26 years before finding it was with kidney disease but not yet ESKD (End Stage Kidney Disease), and in April 2019, my kidney counts proved that I needed to start hemodialysis and Dr. Anjum, who was foreseeing my diseased kidney since 2016. My kidney DID last 31 years! I’m impressed and shocked because my kidney specialists came and went through the years because they moved on or retired. Anyway, with the colonoscopy last week and having one polyp removed, I had learned this week that heparin can not be used for 48 to 72 hours after a procedure or surgery. Mercy Dialysis screwed up using heparin too soon and are too lazy to use saline solution as an alternative when things go awry. I WILL be leaving to go to Fresenius for sure now. Yet, I will still go to Mercy when things go awry with my catheter and have a colonoscopy in 5 to 10 years from now. I had my first at Froedert Hospital because of the kidney transplant kidney list after 37 yesrs since my first transplant.

This Week

I do have to admit that I bled a lot between Friday night and Sunday morning I had bled a lot of fresh red blood and Deb thought I had black and tarry stools. We did nkg know it was not black and tarry, but maroon. Maroon is an okay color for a bowel after a colonoscopy when they have removed and heparin is used as a blood thinner during a dialysis treatment before a 48 and 72 hours. After a procedure of any kind, heparin cannot be used until 48 to 72 hours after a procedure. Now, the dialysis clinic KNEW I was having a colonoscopy in (a procedure) for over a month and talked to me about getting me in earlier than my normal time, but they do not accommodate for me like they do with other patients, and while being admitted into the hospital to have GI look into things, but I did not see Dr. Kahn until Wednesday afternoon because Dr. Bello, the floor doctor this week, did not talk to us after she said GI will do it that afternoon but we did not meet Dr. Kahn until Wednesday afternoon! Because of the pictures taken by Deb, Dr. Kahn reassured us that it was maroon and nog black and tarry stools because the polyp was removed and heparin used before 48 to 72. hours is up. I think 🤔 I said it right… oops, I will be leaving Mercy soon enough for sure now.

Now, with trusting Dr. Anjum, Dr. Kahn, Dr. Snider, and the radiology department that takes care of my catheter, those people are trustworthy and on the good list. So, this hospital visit was necessary but it took a while to get the GI specialist to come in and talk to us when we were told downstairs they would be contacted and coming in. The floor doctor who I saw was Dr.  Bello (female) and Dr. Anjum came in because one of his favorite patients was in the hospital. There was a lot of miscommunication and the staff was confused about what was happening. I had a few phenomenal nurses and CNAs while in the hospital, but when we did not get answers right away, both Jackie and I have been frustrated 😣 at the same time. If a doctor runs around and said things will be looked into today while nothing happens as said.

Well, this week from Sunday to Wednesday morning I have been at Mercy Hospital for the fact I was bleeding blood because of heparin being put into me before 48 to 72 hours after a procedure. At dialysis on Friday, after getting home from my colonoscopy, heparin was used. Jackie, my main caregiver, looked up information about heparin and dialysis after procedure, and read upon it. She knew that I will be okay! She was sure of it. So, when the GI specialist came Wednesday afternoon, Jackie was a little impatient and upset.

What Happened?

Jackie has her issues with MercyHealth because her husband passed away at home 3 weeks after  his discharge from the hospital. So, certain doctors and nurses give her the feeling that I don’t have time for you so I will turn away from you because you told me to take my husband home to die because there is nothing more we can do for him and his cancer. You don’t say that to a medical POA according to Jackie. They rarely listened to her. I have my own issues with MercyHealth, too, and so u will not be staying with MercyHealth in the near future now.

The floor doctor said one thing and nothing happened. Sometimes, with MercyHealth issues, I think they prolong my stays to get more money from me. Ummm, nope. Anyway, I stayed one more night to have another cleanse with Go Lightly for Dr. Kahn to see if the blood residue will go away or I continue to bleed because of an upper GI issue, we will look into it and all the residue blood clears up, I will not have an endoscopy and my fourth colonoscopy in a week. Although I had enough of Go Lightly last week in Milwaukee with 2 failed colonoscopies and having a third one finally be successful, Jackie convinced me to have this cleanse to see if it will clear up because if it clears up and she was confident that it will clear up, I will not need anymore procedures and heparin held back for 48 to 72 hours. We can possibly leave after dialysis. I did the cleanse and my residue blood cleared up after three bowels showed that they had residue blood around brown bowels and the 3rd one did have brown with no blood around 1/4 of the bowel. It had cleared up by 9 pm. Before I started drinking the Go Lightly and threw up a lot of the Go Lightly because it was a strong lemonade due to size of cups and how much of Crystal Light from the packets in the MiraLAX mixture Go Li rightly in a gallon water jug that needed to be drunk within 3 to 4 hours. I had 48 oz of Go Lightly that cleansed my colon. The MiraLAX mixture was put in me and it cleaned up my colon all the way.

I am doing fine now. Glad to be home. I do have to admit that I learned a lot while I was getting dialysis Monday and Wednesday while in the hospital.
