Did I ever expect to ever have dialysis done in the home again after 38 years did I ever expect to have dialysis in the home again? Nope, I did not. Why? Well, I did not know hemodialysis was an option for the home like peritoneal dialysis was back in 1987 from October 1987 to March 12, 1988. The fact is, at that time, I really didn’t have a choice to have hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis at the time because the time was NOT immediately available when I did choose hemodialysis at first, but I needed it right away. The UW in Madison did NOT have enough understanding about hemodialysis at the time that a catheter could be used like today. It was a rough for months back then. Boy, do I remember how peritoneal dialysis made me feel and why. I didn’t like it when I got two bouts of peritonitis and one bout of cellulitis. But when Jackie and I, and Deb learned that hemodialysis can ALSO be done in the home, we left MercyHealth Dialysis Center and became Fresenius Kidney Care patient. How did we learn about hemodialysis in the home? From the nurse who was dialyzing me during my three day stint at Mercy Hospital. She was the one, bless her heart!, she told us about Fresenius! With the problems NOT BEING RESOLVED at MercyHealth Dialysis Center, I was stressed out and had enough from this center and left after signing some papers, and gladly left even though leaving my favorite techs, doctors, and nurses behind, I had to leave them to go to Fresenius Kidney Care in Janesville called Creston Park Mall.
