Because I missed dialysis yesterday, I was awarded a chair for the day from 12:30 pm to 3:15 pm and how I got to my appointment was using Specialized Transit/ADRC today to get to and from my appointment. I did not mind coming today and I do not mind coming on a different day to get my three days of treatment in, but sometimes getting to dialysis is an issue that is out of my control. I will be coming tomorrow, on my regular day as well. I am looking 👀 forward to my weekend. With the holidays from Halloween through to New Years, I must admit that I struggle emotionally with all the hassle of the celebrations and planning of the holiday season. I do not put up a tree anymore because I have two cats who love to climb. Because I have dialysis three times a week, I do not travel out of state to visit family. With my need of cares in the home, Deb and Jackie are here every day to do what they need to do, get out of my way, and live their lives beyond my front door 🚪. Even I want to have time for myself and my fur babies, too. I do not mind lying on my bed or sitting in a chair while no one is here. I can play games, get on social media, read, and watch tv while I am home with my caregivers gone for the night. I do not need or want 24 hour care. With my experience in two nursing homes, the nurses fail at tending to residents and patients in their care. While I was at St. Elizabeth’s nursing home, it took the only nurse three hours to get to me, and my call light unplugged itself from the wall, and on the weekends, only one nurse was working because others called in sick or did not show up. If nursing homes cannot keep their workers, why go there? I was not impressed. Since my grandpa Clarence was at St. Elizabeth’s, and his mother before that, care has gone downhill for the elderly and rehab residents in most places. Also, nursing homes expect a lot from their patients, too. It is not always a fair situation.
