Learning Something & An English Lesson Learned
Well, today was one of those days that seemed to go a little awry at home this morning. I accidentally took my AM pills last night instead of my PM pills! So when Deb got here this morning, I DID NOT take any pills except my phosphorus blocker pills for every meal and snacks. My pills are called Calcium Acetate. It took a while for me to find the spelling of acetate because I didn’t know how to spell the word and I was hearing it as Assertate, until the nurse Rita told me it was sound like the word acid. Even though it doesn’t spell like this acidtate, it does sound like it. Rita came to me and with a piece of paper with the spelling of acetate, I did say it properly for Siri to show me the correct spelling of the medication. I have been taking it for 6 years and just learned taking this medication for 6 years! I feel embarrassed about it, but I am laughing about it because I was humored by the way the nurse Rita came over with the sticky note showing me how Calcium Acetate was spelled while just a few seconds before Siri showed me how acetate was filled, I told Rita how I asked Siri to spell acetate after I said it properly. She chuckled and I chuckled about it myself. I am a stickler with spelling and using the right word in context, but when comes to other people, I don’t worry about misspelling and wrong word context because I am not an English teacher like my English teachers were even though it irritates me to see it when I read a note or something. I will write the best I can when I do. I can be a perfectionist with how I learned in English from 9th grade because in high school I had wonderful English teachers. I did not understand my 10th grade English teacher until after high school when it came to writing papers in MLA or APA format until I was college at Blackhawk Technical College and taking some courses there as well as at U-Rock in Janesville, Wisconsin in my 20 when I took English there at U-Rock. My professor showed me differences between MLA and APA, and while I attended UOPhx (University of Phoenix) College online, I wrote papers in APA format, and did well getting the references done properly.
More later…as I have 15 minutes left to dialyze and I threw in a lesson about English in my dialysis update today to prove a point I am a perfectionist and doing what I can to continue improving my writing for as long as I am alive. Now I can understand what my physical therapist I have known since my grade school days to 2002 because she passed away from succumbing from breast cancer getting to her bones and brains after she had her breasts removed due to the type of cancer she had. It was very aggressive, told me that we live in a school of hard knocks after learning in school and college. We learn something new every day in the world around us.A
