My Thoughts About Dialysis Today
Thu Nov 21 2024

I was not impressed with the workers today. I rarely said hello to anyone on the way in except for a couple of people I felt deserved my hello as I rolled on into my cubicle. My friends and neighbors got my hello when they finally came in, lol, as I got there before my friends this morning. I was not in the mood to talk today.

If staff is not coming in to work their shift, why bother working there? For the longest time now, Mercy Dialysis has lost some of their employees because of other opportunities or they left because of Mercy itself. The center is going to have an employee leave after next week becaude she will be leaving to have her third baby, a baby girl. We have a mother on maternity leave now and since the first part of October. Congratulations, Sam! Your first baby girl! See you in 2025 when you come back. Please do not get me wrong, I am happy for the gal who is leaning in over a week to have her baby, too, it is the fact I am not happy at Mercy Dialysis today. I am disappointed today.

Today being put on a few minutes late did not please me for the first time in a very long time. The weather is a little more cooler and wet today, and going out in rainy weather is not fun anymore. My muscles and bones do not like the cold and rainy weather because I am in my mid fifties these days. I have been wanting to go elsewhere in the past few weeks because of some issues with MercyHealth, but I feel they understand how to deal with the catheter I use and the team in radiology know me well and can replace or repair my catheter when necessary. My fistula and graft sites have either not matured or worked for very long. yes, my graft worked for only nine good months, but it stopped workin* properly for good so I had to go back to using the catheter. With being on dialysis for 5 years now, the catheter is the only means for dialysis now that there is no more means for a fistula or graft anymore. Drawing blood from my veins are now tricky to do now, and once a month and two times a month to grab a patient’s hemoglobin and hematocrit, the nurse or dialysis technician can pull it from the arterial line of the catheter when they get ready to hooked me up to the dialysis machine.

Also, although understanding that the clinic and staff will not be around on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day, I do have to admit that going to the dialysis center on a Sunday and on another day outside your schedule is necessary during November, December, and New Year’s Day.. The staff and the nephrologists want their patients to have dialysis three times a week to have treatment to be successful. As far as patient not coming in three times a week to have successful weekly treatment is the patient’s choice to make, I will always mark it to my appointment at the dialysis center on dialysis day. I do not sit and fret about other patients anymore when thry know missing a treatment can prove to be an unwise choice. With dialysis being three times a week to be successful, I will miss treatment when my caregivers cannot get to me before 1 miss a treatment.

Tomorrow is my last treatment of the day, and on Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday is whrn I go to dialysis for the week. I will have my weekend on Wednesday and Thursday next weekend, and Jackie, Deb, and I, and maybe Marie, we will go see Wicked.

It sounds like a very complicated scenario you have to negotiate every week. I'm amazed at your fortitude. Seriously. 💗
