There's not much to report on with the site, it's humming along nicely. But I thought I'd do a little update about what's going on behind the scenes because things are still happening 😀

Firstly, we're gaining quite a number of new users who're choosing to remain private which is excellent news for the site. Welcome to each and every one of you (if you read this)! Of course, we've also had some new public diaries and welcomed the return of some diarists from years ago. It's lovely to see everyone!

One of the things that possibly reduced the number of users joining was a somewhat restrictive e-mail verification system that was in place. New users must verify their e-mail address (to reduce spam/fraud) by clicking a link in an email that's sent when they sign up. They cannot login until the email address is verified.

There were until recently 2 problems with the way the system was set up. Firstly, if the email never came through for some reason there was no way to re-request the verification code. Secondly, if the email came through, the code would expire after 10 minutes - and with no way to re-request a new code, that was quite the obstacle.

I have uploaded fixes for both issues. The code now expires after 60 minutes because 10 is just silly. I have also implemented a rate limited code re-request system so people whose codes have expired or the email never made it can request a new code.

If anyone has tried raising (or reading) an issue through the issues system, this is now operational again. The github API key had expired but is now renewed and the system is back.

There's also some news that will be breaking in the next few weeks relating to things I've been working on in the very background - but that's for another day 😆
