Something odd was going on with the Entry Header / Entry Footer editor when trying to remove images. Some diarists have had issues where they've not been able to remove existing images and only been able to add a new one underneath despite trying to delete the existing image.
The editor should work by clicking the image then hitting the delete key (or backspace) on your keyboard which would remove the image that was selected. It worked for me but didn't seem to be working for others. The wonders of modern browsers and interfaces being just that slight bit different.
I have added a delete button which should take all the guesswork out of it. It's next to the edit button and should appear on any images in any editor (including the entry editor or diary cover page editor). It makes it a lot clearer how to delete an image.
I've then had fights with the system to get it to make the deletion part of the undo/redo system in Lexical but I think I have now got that working too.
Please do be aware you cannot change an entry header or footer image from the entry itself - it is under Diary Settings, Appearance.
If anyone is still having a drama with deleting images from entry headers / footers please do let me know.

And having just looked at it all on mobile, the delete button is of course the only logical way to do it anyway so it shouldβve always had a delete button!!
Dβoh!

You were one of many Tim. When more than one says something isn't working properly then it has to be the system not the user :)
Ha! Worked slick as.... ANYWAY! Thanks! Now I'm probably going to play with headers on and off for weeks to come. π€£ Thank you!
