We woke this morning very early, just gone 0530 and unfortunately Missy noticed that there was no power. My 0530 brain decided that meant that the main fuse had blown overnight and the fridge and freezer contents would be utterly ruined.
We’re camping off grid this week, and so no power hookup. And it’s been HOT this week so the fridge has been working overtime. This included overnight when there was no solar.
The batteries had gone flat. Which is pretty poor considering they’re 120Ah each (but with lead acid you can only use up to about 50% so usable rating of 60Ah each). The fridge draws about 5A which means it should, even with just one battery, run happily for at least 10 hours. Two should run for 20 hours.
The batteries had gone flat overnight and the system is designed to cut out when they’re flat to stop the batteries from being irreversibly destroyed.
So, major crisis averted, but minor crisis required new batteries anyway because they are severely under performing now.
On the plus side, this is what we woke up to, and the saying “every cloud” definitely doesn’t apply today!

Incredibly, I’ve just typed a whole entry on my phone and uploaded a photo. I am actually quite impressed with this site 😊

Enjoy your camping out and rest of the week! Wow, I miss those days when my brother and I went camping with our parents before their divorce in ‘79. Camping as a young girl in Florida and going to see Yogi Bear in Fort Atkinson was fun when I was a child was FUN!
Having a real snug place to sleep and still be out in nature is the best of both worlds. Having 'slept' on the ground while backpacking, at this point in life, car camping is just the ideal! Sorry about your batteries though.
