Harvesting Chickens
Hello, I woke up at 4am, got up, drink my coffee and get ready by 6am to drive to arrive at my SIL's house by 7am. We ate breakfast first; sweet potatoes and eggs and I added a mandarin before setting up the chicken harvesting process. We had to cut a new traffic cone because the other one she had was too small for the birds to fit in the bottom. She cut the necks off the birds. Unfortunately, the knives were kinda dull, so undressing and gutting them was rough but we got them done. There was only 7 to do, and I did about 3. I got to take one of the chickens home for helping and then I also got the 2-dozen eggs I wanted.
Ive got to leave the chicken in my fridge for a couple days to let the rigor mortis rest, and then I can put it in the freezer for the future. It's a BIG meat bird, so I'll get plenty of food from it. I'll use its carcass to make chicken broth too to extend how many meals I get out of it. I'm just happy to get meat from a local farm(my SIL's farm).
So, after we butchered the chickens, we went to Chik-Fil-A and got chicken sandwiches and had lunch with my brother at his work. It's the first time I had fast food all week. I'm doing fine... I will just continued my regular diet. I have to make exceptions when I'm with family. I'll have my lentil soup for dinner, and maybe make some dates with cream cheese and walnut pieces.
