Dear Diary,

Today is the 81st anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism here in Italy, and curiously, after a couple of years of being cooped up at home, my grandmother agreed to go out with my parents and her caregiver, in a wheelchair, of course.

She went to visit the owners of the grocery store where we've been shopping almost every day since the early 1990s, and they were very happy to see her!

Then she took a stroll around Magni Park, and some people helped her when she had any difficulties with her wheelchair.

I'm so happy for her!

We're confident she might want to go out again, now that she's seen that no one makes fun of her for being in a wheelchair!

On this special day dedicated to Liberation from oppression, who knows, maybe my grandmother will be able to free herself at least a little from her unfounded fears...

This afternoon, I'll be meeting with E. in Arona.

Perhaps her mother, I., will be there too, whom I haven't seen in years.

I'm feeling nervous, I hope she doesn't ask me the usual uncomfortable questions and make me feel inadequate, as often happens...

I can do this, I just have to learn to love myself, respect myself, and not allow others to cross boundaries that shouldn't be crossed... easy said, much less done.

I'd just like to isolate myself from the world and continue reading my beloved young adult novels, but I know it's good for me to take advantage of the few opportunities I have to socialize.
