Plus Membership

DearDiary.Net is free to use. Plus membership is an optional paid upgrade that unlocks extra features and — as a nice side effect — helps keep the site running for everyone.

What Plus includes

Secret Diary (end-to-end encrypted) Create a diary whose entries are encrypted in your browser before leaving your device. The server stores only ciphertext — DearDiary.Net staff cannot read your secret entries under any circumstances. The server also independently verifies that every save request contains genuine ciphertext, so even a software bug or malformed request cannot cause plaintext to reach the database. Requires a passphrase you set yourself; a 12-word recovery phrase is generated at setup. See the Secret Diary guide for full details.

Advanced trackers The weight tracker (including goal setting and trend charts) is a Plus-only tracker. Free accounts have access to the mood and sleep trackers.

Multiple diaries Free accounts are limited to one private diary. Plus members can create as many diaries as they like.

Public and followers-only diaries Free diaries are always private. Plus members can make diaries public or restrict them to approved followers.

Unlimited sharing links Create as many shareable entry links as you like. Free accounts are limited to 3 per month.

Colour formatting Use coloured text and background highlights in your entries — useful for mood journaling, callouts, or just making things look nice.

More themes and fonts A wider selection of diary colour themes and font choices to personalise your reading experience.

Background images Upload a custom background image for your diary, visible to you and any readers.

Images in entries Attach and embed images directly in your entries.

First access to new features Plus members get early access when new features roll out.

Pricing

Payments are handled securely by Stripe. DearDiary.Net never sees or stores your card details.

How to subscribe

Wherever you encounter a Plus-only feature, a Go Plus pill button will appear next to it — for example next to public/followers-only privacy options, theme and font selectors, the colour formatting toolbar, image settings, and the follower settings in Diary Settings. Clicking the pill opens the upgrade dialog described below.

You can also open it directly from the profile/system menu:

1. Open the profile/system menu (your avatar or name in the header or sidebar).
2. Click GoPlus Today.
3. In the dialog that opens, choose Go Plus Monthly or Go Plus Yearly.
4. Enter your card details in the Stripe checkout form that appears inline.
5. Once payment completes your account upgrades immediately.

Managing your subscription

• To cancel or update your payment method, open the GoPlus Today menu item and click Manage Your Subscription — this opens the Stripe billing portal in a new tab.
• If you cancel, Plus features remain active until the end of your current billing period.

What happens when my Plus subscription ends?

The short answer: nothing is lost. All your diaries and entries are preserved exactly as you left them. Here is what changes and what doesn't:

What stays exactly as it is

• Every entry you've ever written — including entries with images, colour formatting, and rich text — is kept in full and remains readable by you.
• All your diaries — you can still read and navigate every diary you created while on Plus.
• Your secret diary — all encrypted data is preserved. You can continue to read your secret entries with your passphrase, just as before.
• Your followers — follower records are kept. If you resubscribe, your diaries go straight back to their previous privacy settings and your existing followers regain access automatically, with no need to re-invite anyone.
• Your themes, fonts, and background images — your choices are saved. They'll be restored the moment you resubscribe.

What changes

• Writing new entries requires a non-secret diary. You can only create new entries in a private (non-secret) diary. If your only diary is a secret diary, you will not be able to write new entries until you resubscribe — but you can still read everything you've already written.
• Extra diaries become private to the outside world. Any public or followers-only diaries will stop being visible to other people. Your privacy settings are preserved in the database — they are not changed — so everything restores automatically when you resubscribe.
• Plus-only features are unavailable for new content. You won't be able to write new secret entries, add images, use colour formatting, or use the weight tracker until you resubscribe. Existing content that uses these features remains fully readable.

Resubscribing

You can resubscribe at any time from the GoPlus Today menu item. Everything — diaries, follower lists, privacy settings, themes — picks up exactly where you left off, instantly.

Refunds

If something isn't working as expected, contact us and we'll sort it out. We don't offer automatic refunds for unused time after cancellation.
