New Years Goals
Sat Jan 09 2010

I refuse to make resolutions. You can't make me. Instead I am going to have some goals for the year.

Goal one is to be more organized. With that in mind, I downsized and reorganized the two cupboards under the peninsula today. My plan for keeping them organized? We took digital pictures of how it is "supposed" to be organized, printed them out and taped them to the inside of the doors. If the kids don't put things away the way they should, it will become a chore for any one of them to "clean" the cupboards and put them back the way they are supposed to be.

My pots & pans cupboard and cooking dishes are on the schedule for tomorrow. If I get energetic enough about it I may do the same with the pantry.

On the other hand, maybe I'll save the pantry for a weekend that Hubby is home and we can do it together. That sounds like a MUCH better plan (he is SO much better at organizing than I am).

Goal two is to eat healthier, starting with cooking more meals at home and grabbing fast food or ordering pizza less often. I'm actually going to try planning a week of meals, and sticking to the plan. Not an easy job, let me tell you! I'm aiming for at least 3 meals a week to be crock-pot meals, so left overs should help cover lunches and fill in at least a few of the other meals.

Goal three is to take the dogs for walks more often. Hubby and I used to do this almost every night, or at least several times a week, then I hurt my knee last spring. I think we've only gone for a walk a handful of times since then. I'm steady enough on my knee now to feel comfortable walking Jake (or, letting him walk me until he gets the hang of walking on a leash with better manners). Admittedly we took him for a walk last week, and I needed a few days to let my arm and shoulder recover after that!

How about you? What are you doing for 2010?

Interesting idea to take a picture of your organized cupboards! Clever.

RYC: The bread starter I got is a 10 day recipe but because of the white-out we had I didn't get it until day 6 so, at this point, I've only got three more days. I'm thinking that the recipe my mother used to use was a three week one like yours. Thanks for the suggestion of the chocolate pudding ;). I'll definitely give that a whirl!

I'm with you. More menu-planning (which means more crock-pot meals), more organization (and forcing the kids to be involved), and more activity. I'm also trying to be more disciplined and careful about money, and I'm also committing to spending more time with the kids outside the house. My son and I are going to take golf lessons together, and son and daughter are going to take tennis lessons, which will also place us outdoors when the weather gets nice again.

    All hail the Resolutions!
