I have a friend who referred to this movie, after seeing it, as "Dances with the Dragonriders of Pern", and that's a fairly accurate description of the storyline. But the movie... WOW.

The storyline is one that has been rehashed yet again, nothing new there. But the special effects are such that the tired old story becomes new.

We didn't see it in 3D, which I've been hearing people rave about. Hubby and I both wear glassses, and going to see a 3D movie is distracting as we spend so much time holding the stupid 3D glasses on our faces over our existing glasses that we can't see without, that we miss much of what we are watching.

It's well worth seeing though, if for nothing else than the spectacular effects. In fact, I may have to see it again. And again. And... (you get the idea)

I took my kids to see it on Sunday in 3-D. I'm a biased critic (I don't care for sci-fi, fantasy, or action/destruction flicks), and while I found the special effects and animation impressive, the re-hashed, overdone, predictable plotlines annoyed me. I was particularly offended by the way the movie depicted the U.S. Military and Soldiers, in general. I also hated the very obvious political/economic/environmental "agenda" that the movie tried to pound into my head. I felt like I had to "de-program" my kids from the Ignorant Hollywood-Brainwashing they were exposed to!

The movie left me cold and resenting that I paid full price, contributing to the "Hollywood Machine." I am seriously considering NEVER seeing any movie in a theater again unless it's a dollar theater because Avatar made me HATE Hollywood just that much...

I have heard of the movie being real good but I have not seen it myself. I found the previews different but I do want to see it as I like fantasy.
