In a Pickle
Thu Aug 26 2004

OK, not so much "in" a pickle as thinking about making pickles. The weather has been cool, and I'd like to take advantage of it and get some canning done. I'm going to see if I can juggle homework, laundry and canning tomorrow. We will see how it goes. Since I don't have to really "cook down" anything I'm planning on putting up, hopefully I will be able to fit it in.

I'm also thinking about making relish, but that will have to wait until after Monday.

I have my test Monday night, and plan to do some major studying and putting together my page of notes for it in the next three days. This class is with the teacher who allows one page of notes for the test. My page is 18" x 24" (about 46cm x 61cm) and I usually use both sides of it. I'm very thorough at putting my notes together!

We were lucky today, Hubby was able to call home TWICE!!!!! The first time he called, #2 was at Golf practice, so when he called later #2 got to speak with him. There is still nothing certain, but he is fairly sure he will be able to get home before his birthday. He may even be able to get off work for his birthday! I imagine we will be doing "house" stuff regarding all the selections we have to make for the house. We still have some numbers to play with, so we will see what happens.

OK, time to go threaten the kids with grounding for life if they don't quiet down and fall asleep!

I just bought some pickle relish a few days ago. Wasn't very good. I wish we had room to grow vegetables, making my own seems like the perfect remedy.

Good luck with the pickles. I was never very good at those with the exception of Bread and Butter Pickles. My mother used to make pretty good sweet pickles, but I have never tried making those. That is why God invented Stienfeld's. :)

Speaking of my mother's sweet pickles, I remember a year when she thought the color too drab so she added green food coloring. Those were the brightest Christmas Green pickles ever to grace the planet. I would take them in my lunch and never fail to draw a crowd. lol
