Another Head Against The Wall Day
Sun Feb 15 2004

I've been struggling with my homework this afternoon, and getting quite frustrated. I'm coming across things in the homework for which there is no reference to in the chapter or in the notes.

We are playing with finding the value of an integral, and the average value of an integral. I keep looking at all the squiggles in the book, and am pretty sure there are explanations for them in the book, but I'll be darned if I can find them.

I really have to question why I've got a B in this class so far. I seriously deserve an F. I suspect I'll probalby take it again next term no matter what the grade I get in the class. I am just not getting this stuff and I really need to know it before I'm comfortable going on.

I'm hoping that I can get over to the Library to do homework this week during the days. I'm not sure how well it will work out as the kids are home for the week. The lovely no-purpose vacation time of "Mid Winter Break". I could have sworn that the few weeks we had off over Christmas was the winter break, and it was less than 2 months ago. Why on earth do the kids need a week off now? The kids go back to school on the 23rd and then have another week off on April 12.

OK, enough bickering about the redundant school breaks and vacations. Time to get back to homework.

Ugh.

I wish I could offer you some help, but that stuff is way OVER my head. I can understand your wanting to take the class over before going on. That is what I would do too. Good luck with it.

I love going to the library, it is my way of having some quite time to myself.

It's Calculus. You aren't supposed to understand it. Believe me, I know of what I speak. I've taken Calculus three times total in my life. The first time was in high school. I figured I didn't get it because I was only in high school. Then I took it in undergraduate. I nearly failed it there. I figured it was because I didn't have an aptitude for Calculus. The last time was ten years ago, when I had to take it as a prerequisite to vet school. I got an "A". I got an "A" because the teacher let us bring an 8 1/2 X 10" piece of paper with anything we wanted on it into the test. I wrote out every homework assignement in micro print on the sheet. The teacher always gave variants of homework questions on the test. Sometimes it was even the exact same question. To have gotten anything other than an "A" under those circumstances would have been embarrassing. I still didn't get it.

Calculus is only for those lofty few bean counters who think in binary code.

Mid-Winter break? That's really odd... My younger brother and sister have President's Day off, but they haven't had a break since Christmas, and won't again until Spring Break. They just got off break, why do they need another one? *roll eyes*

What college is it you're going to? Where I go to school, if you pass the class, they won't allow you to take it again. You have to get 60% or under to be able to retake the class. I've been in the same boat you're in, wanting to retake the class because I just didn't get it... but I passed it, so they wouldn't let me. (Not that I was broken up about it, I never liked math anyway, and Music Majors spend more time dealing with simple math... --it's often joked that musicians can only count to 16, because that's the highest we really need to count in music... everything else is numbered for us... hehehe)

Those questions were great! A couple of those were really tough at first, but with a little thought (or research), I got them done. Thank you again.
