The day draws to a close
Tue Sep 10 2002

Well, we are all sitting around groaning, our tummies full of Lasagne and birthday cake. It has been a wonderfully relaxing day for me and Hubby relates that he has had a good day also.

I don't know what my mind set will be tomorrow. I have been playing Cleopatra, queen of denial today focusing on Hubby's birthday so I didn't have to think about 9/11 yet. Tomorrow will bring what it brings. I will face it as it comes and get through it. I will just be sure to have lots of kleenex on hand should it be more emotional than I anticipate it being.

There are so many arguments going on between different political factions as to what we should and should not be doing as a nation in regards to Terrorism. There are even more arguments and opinions among the civilian sectors on the same subject.

For tomorrow we will all remember what happened to us a year ago. I for one, never want to see something like that happen in my country again. The big question is, what should and can we do to prevent it? If we stop our military measures, can we expect another attack in the near future? If we don't stop our military meaxures can we expect another attack in the near future? Do any actions we take now help to prevent future acts of terror against us? I believe it does.

While I live on the other side of the country from New York and Washington DC, I don't want to see another attack of any kind on any part of my country. I do believe we need to take steps to prevent that from happening. While it is a wonderful pipe dream to think that all the world leaders could gather together around a meeting table and work out an agreement to prevent any further acts of violence, that is just not a reality in the world we live in.

I listen to all these feel-good, earth-muffin groups protesting military actions. If it was as simple as laying down our arms and minding our own business, don't you think our government would have done that? Other groups (not countries, but groups) are attacking us and our way of life. Do you really think they will not continue attacks if we get rid of all the tools of war? How long would we continue to have freedom of speech, religion, the right to bear arms, and all the other freedoms we take for granted on a daily basis?

Just the fact that these groups can gather in a peaceful manner to stage the protests is a freedom I don't think these groups appreciate. Do they believe they would be able to do so under another form of government? Why don't they move to an Arab state and give it a try there. The women may want to go shopping first so they are not put to death for exposing any part of themselves.

OK, I don't want to go off on a tangent, so I will climb down off my soap box now. I want to stay relaxed, so it is off to grab a beer and cuddle with hubby in front of a good show.
